Disclaimer: This article should not be taken too seriously, it's supposed to be lighthearted!
People in LA are really cool. Here's how to be one of them:
Step 1: Take pictures in front of walls with vines.
This is especially popular among the younger crowd and also bloggers and people that have a theme for their Instagram (I'll get to that later). At least once everyday I see someone on the explore page on Instagram wearing a super chic outfit (usually black) standing in front of one of these walls (they seem to be everywhere in West Hollywood), looking away, because looking at the camera and smiling is just NOT okay.
Step 2: Drink Cold Pressed Juice
LA people love this. I agree, cold pressed juice is good, but are probably other organic juices that are just as good... so why this one?
Step 3: Go to Alfred's Coffee.
For non LA residents, Alfred's Coffee is located on Melrose Place and is basically the hot spot for the young, cool-but not too cool crowd. This is where the infamous "But First, Coffee" saying originated (which is filtered into different retailers and Instagram accounts everywhere). Whether Alfred's started the trend or not is up for debate, but the great part about this place is you can be trendy with your Alfred's coffee cup AND also purchase your cold pressed juice at the same time! Wow. Amazing!
Step 4: Go Thrifting!
LA is full of thrift stores and has become the norm for shopping for many LA residents. Specifically on La Brea, you'll find tons of thrift and vintage stores. Also, on Melrose you'll find this. The funny thing is most of the thrift stores in LA sell clothing that's more expensive than an actual fast fashion type store.
Step 5: Take Pictures with the LACMA Lights.
If you didn't take an artsy picture frolicking through the LACMA lights, did you really go? Okay, I am guilty of this. I think this is especially common for new residents of LA and also college students. For some reason we're drawn to these lamps and feel the need to share with everyone our amazing experience posing next to them.
Step 6: Take pictures of Your Super Unrealistic, Minimalist Desk and Make Sure You Add Succulents to It.
I see this with a lot of fashion bloggers, and people involved in the industry in general. For some reason having a super clean desk with items that probably aren't practical and probably never get used, are more likely to get you more "likes" on Instagram than a desk that actually looks like a desk.
Step 7: Make a Theme for Your Instagram Account.
I remember when Instagram was just a place to post random pictures of your life but now people have themes, use it for marketing, and make money off if it. To be really cool though, you HAVE to have a theme. For example, some people have a grey theme, so the only pictures on the account are pictures with grey tones or all of their pictures have only three items in it, etc. I tried doing that once. It lasted a day.
Like I said at the beginning, this article is supposed to be taken lightheartedly. I love observing people and the trends that catch on and these are just some of the funny little things I've seen over time. I love LA and I love the people that live there. No hate whatsoever!
