Ah, February.
The one month that most single girls dread, thanks to Valentine’s Day. A month that should be spent enjoying the cold weather and looking forward to spring. Instead, we get the most disheartening holiday of them all (if you’re in the right headspace to think so). It’s so stressful, really -- how are we supposed to find a date, or would we even want to, thanks to cynicism and recent breakups? The only real saving grace is the dirt-cheap chocolate the day after, and possibly getting stupidly drunk on the day of. To us, there’s no real reason to celebrate February 14, and it’s too easy to get bummed out and cynical for that full 24 hours.
However, I’m about to introduce a game-changer. And that game-changer’s name is Galentine’s Day.
For those of you who aren’t aware, Galentine’s Day is an alternate celebration wherein single girls gather together and make the best of their night by celebrating the friendship kind of love. It’s a night where cynicism, jealousy, and lugubriousness aren’t allowed in the slightest. Food, booze, and gossip abound, and if you throw your celebration the right way, you won’t miss your ex-bae one bit. It’s nothing but fun, and I’m so glad I started celebrating with my friends.
Which brings us to the heart of this article: how do you throw the perfect Galentine’s Day?
It’s actually not too difficult. Here’s how!
Step one: Make sure you’ve got good food. This isn’t the most important part of an effective celebration, but it’s a close second. Chips, chocolate, queso -- basically anything and everything unhealthy and delicious is a good option. Late-night taco runs are a plus; if you’ve got Postmates, even better after you’ve made a considerable dent in step two, which follows below.
Step two: Make sure you’ve got some fun drinks. This is the most important part of a good Galentine’s celebration. Be it margaritas, daiquiris, wine, or Jell-O shots, some quality booze is an absolute necessity when you’re bonding with your girls. Just don’t get too shambly! Nobody likes spending a night sleeping with your head in the toilet. For even more fun, throw in a couple of drinking games to get thingsstarted!
Step three: make sure you’ve got sweatpants. If you’re not going out, there’s really no point in wearing something as constricting as real pants. Get comfy, you deserve it! No uncomfortable clothes, bras, or high heels allowed.
Step four: make sure you’ve got good company! Your best girls are the ones who have your back, know all your secrets, and always manage to make you laugh. Hold them close, stuff them full of wine and pizza pockets, and get to celebrating!
You might also want to have a good selection of movies in your Netflix queue too -- nothing suits girls’ night better than a chick flick or two! Also optional -- face masks, nail polish, and raw cookie dough.
See? Nothing to it! Now go enjoy your best Galentine’s Day ever!
