So for my girlfriend and I’s one year anniversary, I decided to get her a dozen doughnuts. Now usually I don’t like spending tons of money BUT I wanted to treat her right. So I decided to get our favorite doughnuts from SoDough Baking Co. I even called ahead to preorder them. When I asked them about how much it would cost, the lady never told me. Soooo I said bump it and picked them up the next day, and to my surprise, the total was $29.00….

I repeat $29.00, plus tax. I couldn’t believe what she just said. I was so confused on how six strawberry and cinnamon sugar sprinkled doughnuts costed $29.00. Then she told me that I preordered online and received a discount. I got so relieved. But we live in a world where things don’t go the way they seem and then the price literally dropped from $29.00 to $27.00.

This is what I like to call, “27 Things I could buy with $27.00”

1. I could buy six and a half $4 for 4 meals at Wendy’s.

2. Any ticket at AMC plus a small popcorn.

3. At Least 4/5 shirts from Old Navy $5 discount sale (plus tax).

4. A 24-pack of alcohol from any liquor store.

5. Three dozen krispy kreme doughnuts ($7.99 each) plus tax.

6. A haircut from my barber plus the tip.

7. 24/26 Items from Dollar Tree.

8. Two shades at Zumiez (Usually range from $10-$13 plus tax).

9. Using $27 is filling up my tank for my Ford Taurus.

10. A candle from Yankee Candle.

11. A dress shirt from Stein Mart.

12. About 10 different meal combinations at Mcdonalds.

13. Two and a half months of music prescription.

14. A premium gym membership at any affordable gym.

15. Small drink at AMC.

16. About three to four drinks from any bar in Tallahassee.

17. Four pizzas at Hungry Howies.

18. Four meals at Burger King19. A family size bucket plus fries plus drinks at Guthries.

20. Three apple chargers from Walgreens.

21. Five different types of $5 wines at Trader Joes.

22. Two months of a Netflix subscription.

23. A blanket from Kohl’s.

24. 27 $1 DVD’s at Walmart in the discounted bin.

25. About four to five Lucky Goat Tally Bombs (Might want to check their prices because it went up).

26. Buy a book at Books A Million.

27. Athletic gear at Academy.

At the end of the day, I am not mad at SoDough Baking Co.. Trust me. I enjoy their business and delights whenever I get the chance too. I just think it’s crazy that the dozen was so much! This is why you always have to ask questions.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
