There are many artists who can spot on describe any emotion we feel. But very few can exactly take the words right out of our minds and put it into an album. Halsey’s new album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, describes our love life. Here is a play by play on how some of the songs describes you.
100 letters
This song, in my opinion, is one of the darkest on the album. For those of us who have suffered from emotional and physical domestic abuse, this songs describes our thoughts during this time. After being involved with a relationship like this, we often have multiple anxieties thinking that all of it was our fault. These 100 letters represent the constant reminders of the darkness in that relationship. The constant regret going through our minds that we “almost gave you everything”. Even though it is a journey to remember that none of this was our fault, remember that Halsey ends the song with her leaving. She leaves from the relationship and the regret. "He said 'please don't go away' I said 'it's too late'.
Now or never
This song probably describes an experience most of us have been through. We all know that the new wave for us young people nowadays is to play hard to get. This is Halsey saying how her time is too valuable for the games. We all know those games. You know exactly what I am talking about because you either played them or got played. Those games include waiting the double amount of time of texting back, leaving someone or being left on read, or my personal favorite; lets pretend like we have no feelings just so we won’t get attached incase it can end badly. Come on people, Halsey is telling us it is NOW OR NEVER. Tell your crush how you feel because time is too valuable and life it too short to lie to yourself about it.
Sorry
This song is one of the most relatable to me and every time I hear it, I tear up. Through all of my failed love attempts, it has made me so self conscious to the idea of love. But, the root of the problem is, and I am sure a lot of people in their 20s understand this, loving yourself is something you have to do before any other love for anyone else. This song apologizes for all of the “unknown lovers” that we hurt because of the wounds our past has left us with. This song apologizes for not thinking that “anybody ever really starts to fall in love with me”. Obviously I need to take my own advice when saying this but, everyone deserves to be loved, even you. One day you will be loved and one day that person will make you forget your past, and patch up your wounds.
Bad at Love
This song describes those toxic relationships we all know about. Those relationships that make you lose yourself when you’re in them. This is one of the songs that I relate to the most. When I got out of my last relationship, which had happened to be my longest, I completely didn’t know who I was anymore. We often think that getting with these guys will make us love ourselves but the true love is within yourself (I know I keep saying that, but the more you say it, the more you have to believe it). Basically, the term “bad at love”, refers to us thinking that we keep finding people who aren’t good for us. Just remember that this is the plan and one day we will meet someone who makes us “good at love”.
This whole album describes a modern day love story. All of these songs are relatable enough to get you memorizing each lyric by the second listen.
