I used to be all aboard the Netflix train and strongly against Hulu, however, recently Netflix has done nothing but hurt me and is now pushing me toward Hulu. Over the past year Netflix has ripped away every show I ever loved. Okay, pretty much only "Psych" and "Bob's Burgers", but it's still very traumatic.
Gone were the Friday nights spent eating Taco Bell and watching "Bob's Burgers"- or so I thought. My sister recently got a Hulu account and has been letting me use it. This is when I realized not only could I rewatch all my favorite episodes of "Bob's Burgers," but I could also watch seasons 6 and 7- which were never on Netflix.
Hulu opened the door for me with a page tailor-made to recommend shows that I would like based on the preferences I selected. I can also watch shows I never dreamed of being able to watch on Netflix like "The Real Housewives" and "The Tonight Show: Starring Jimmy Fallon."
Don't get me wrong, I still love Netflix. It has originals like "Stranger Things," "13 Reasons Why," and "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life," which you can't get on Hulu or anywhere else, and not to mention the set up for Netflix is also much better. While Hulu let's you pick up where you left off if you fell asleep while watching, you can't just find the episode and change it on your home page.
You have to search for the show and go find the episode, which is so inconvenient if you're used to clicking episodes on your Netflix home page or changing them while you are watching the show by pressing the button at the bottom. Hulu also has commercials, which you can get taken away by paying more money, but its still really annoying.
I also don't like that I can't add more than 2 screens on Hulu without having a Live package. This means to get what I get for roughly $14 a month on Netflix, I have to pay at least $55 to get on Hulu.
The bottom line is both have problems. Hulu is currently able to offer a slightly better variety of shows because they show commercials and charge higher prices to get them taken away. However they have a ton of problems when it comes to the convenience of the set up, which is where Netflix does much better.
