The millenial generation is a generation of innovators -- artists, writers, musicians, scientists, nurses, and thinkers alike -- we pose solutions for an audience, and its up to the audience to choose a feasible one based on their life experiences.
We are not a generation of laziness, or emotionless drones subjugated by a lethal wave of technology. We are not staples of society -- fitting the archetype of what baby boomers have stamped us with -- as distant, corrupt individuals who are solely satisfied with instant gratification. No, we are a generation of fostering creativity; revamping clichés into novel ideas where people find familiarity and purpose. And we're here to prove it.
So what makes something creative? It's as simple as the story and the emotion elicited from the story. See, bad cinematography, bad audio and even slipshod writing skills can be forgiven if you can tell that story well.
They say that a person is a conglomeration of the five people they are closest with. Each person is composed of creativity, and some people just need to acknowledge that and find something they are passionate about in life.
So, you can be a cliché and fit comfortably in the crowd, or you can be different and uncomfortable and confused and spontaneous -- and blindly, yet effectively work your way up to some masterpiece. Whether that be your first publication in a local magazine or finding the cure to pancreatic cancer, each accomplishment should be held to the highest and equitable caliber.
We are not dehumanized by technology. In fact, our generation has used this to our advantage. We are using technology to spread ideas so new ones can be created.
We feed off our arsenal of virtually unlimited secondary sources; videos and articles and pictures, all taken from Twitter and Instagram and Facebook and Tumblr (with appropriate crediting of course) to inspire us to keep on creating.
It's kind of like a recipe for apple pie. While your opinion of the best apple pie in the world goes to to your beloved Grandma, a boy from Chicago can garnish his pie with fried broccoli crowns and claim his throne on the deliciousness of the popular dessert. It's all about opinion and experience.
Thus, technology is not turning this generation into violent, disconnected or narcissistic individuals. It is used as an instrument to connect one another, drawing sources to help our innovators of today flourish in the future.
