If The Cast Of 'How I Met Your Mother' Was 'Slapsgiving' Food

With Thanksgiving around the corner, I can't help but think about why it is my favorite holiday. Not only is it a fun time to eat amazing food with family members, it is also nice to remember everything that I am thankful for. With Netflix taking "How I Met Your Mother" off (the worst decision the could have made if you ask me), during my final binge sessions I couldn't help but compare the characters to my favorite Thanksgiving foods.

1. Marshall as the mashed potatoes.

Mashed potatoes are a staple when it comes to Thanksgiving just like how Ted's best friend is essential to HIMYM. You can never get enough of Marshall's kindness and how he comforts everyone in the same way that mashed potatoes are the perfect comfort food and can never get enough of them.

2. Lily as the gravy.

Gravy goes hand in hand with the mashed potatoes, and the two are best together, hence why Lily is the gravy. She is the best person she can be when she is with Marshall. Thanksgiving wouldn't be the same without the gravy in the same way that their friend group wouldn't be whole without Lily.

3. Ted as the stuffing.

While Ted is the main character and narrator of the show, he isn't the most important character. The mother is the backbone of the whole series, but of course, there would be no show without Ted. Stuffing is not the most important food that you eat on Thanksgiving day, but there would be no Thanksgiving meal without the stuffing to go with the turkey.

4. Barney as the pumpkin pie.

Barney is the character that is bad, but you cannot get enough of him. Pumpkin pie and dessert, in general, is always so good when you are eating it, but you always feel stuffed when finishing your dessert after feasting on turkey. With Thanksgiving, you need to have dessert, and HIMYM needs Barney because he brings life and humor to the gang.

5. Robin as the green bean casserole.

Green bean casserole is always a staple of Thanksgiving dinner even if you forget about its importance sometimes. Robin is the same way, while yes, she is very important to the whole "HIMYM" plot-line, there are moments that she is just kind of there. When she is together with one of the main characters, similar to on Thanksgiving day, green bean casserole is on my mind. However, when it isn't Thanksgiving or Robin isn't with anyone important, they both are on the back burner.

6. The Mother as the turkey.

Now, of COURSE, the mother is the same as Thanksgiving turkey. It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without turkey just like how HIMYM would not exist if there were no mother. The name of the show is "How I Met Your Mother " and with no mother to meet, what would the purpose of the stories be? There is no show if there is no mother. If there is no turkey, can you even call it Thanksgiving?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
