Okay, Self. We talk a lot. I'm going to be in charge of this one though. I'm telling you what things are going to be like for us from now on. Things are changing around us and we need to change with them.

So, from now on, we are done just being okay. We are going to be better than okay. We are going to take charge and not let anyone boss us around for no reason. We are equals with everyone. No one is talking down to us. No one is calling us stupid, brainless, or an idiot anymore. If they do, we are putting our foot down and taking back our position as an equal.

From now on, we are first with men. And I mean MEN. We aren't accepting second, third, fourth, whatever. We are only going to be number one and, if we aren't, bye. We are an adult (sort of) and we are going to have adult relationships.

No more, "Let's be friends." No, baby, we have plenty of friends. Self, I don't know about you but I'm not looking for any more friends.

From now on, we are dressing however we please. That includes our clothes, hair, makeup, and shoes. Do we want to wear low tops? Let's go. Do you want to wear a crop top, Self? Which color? We aren't bowing down anymore because we are chunky.

We aren't bowing down anymore because we want to limit our makeup to one or two days a week. If our friends and suitors don't want us at our Lurch, they sure can't have us at our Morticia.

From now on, we are paying disrespectful trolls no mind. I mean, honestly, if they are willing to disrespect someone else, how much respect can they have for themselves? Everyone has an opinion and if theirs is rude, we will ignore it from now on.

From now on, If we want to work out, we will. If we don't, we won't. Our physical body hates us so if we are too tired to get up and work out, that's okay. We are okay the way we are.

From now on, we won't accept less than what we expect. Everyone expects the world from us and gets upset when what they want is impossible. So, we are going to start only accepting our expectations or higher.

Does someone cancel plans with no reason? They have to work harder next time to get us to come. Someone disappears for no reason and suddenly comes back wanting to treat us like an option? That's just unacceptable.

From now on, we are more important to us than anyone else. We are no longer giving the shirt off of our back to anyone unless they would definitely do the same. We aren't killing ourselves for someone else's needs when we have needs of our own. We are done being the problem dump. We are done having no one to talk to when it gets dark for us.

I'm not asking you to be perfect, Self. I'm only asking for the best Self that there is. I'm asking for self care and self love.

From now on, we are taking care of us.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
