As every high school senior makes their transition into college, everyone has to make one very important decision about that transition. Which school they actually want to spend the next four years of their lives at. They say most people make decisions that impact the rest of their lives in these years. What we do now is inevitably going to be our future, so we better make it count, and we owe it to ourselves to make the right decision, not just to please others, but to please ourselves.
I made that decision, and it was a pretty tough one to make considering all of my very close friends were going to all different schools. At one point, I even considered choosing a school based on whether or not my high school friends were going there, and then I quickly snapped out of it. I needed to make a choice that would be the best for me, not a choice that would not be good for me but be good for my friends.
My choice was Eastern University. Now, I've only been a college freshman or first year, for about a week or so. So some people may say, "Well how do you know that Eastern is the place for you?" This is what I tell them:
1. The Community.
One thing that is undeniable about Eastern University is the community. Everyone that goes to Eastern is kind hearted and genuine. Just being here a week or so, I have met so many people from all over that are beautiful inside and out. Whoever you are, you will not have trouble making friends here. You will always feel a part of something here.
2. The Campus.
The Eastern campus is absolutely gorgeous; the nature vibe is undeniable. The campus is peaceful and calm, and the scenery along with the wonderful people just tie the whole atmosphere together.
3. Explore EU Weekend
I got exposed to Eastern greatly through a weekend where I got to stay with a host in their dorm and explore the campus as if I were a student before I actually was one! This is one of the first times I was exposed to all the amazing factors of Eastern, including the amazing staff and professors that made you feel like you, and not just another student they are getting tuition from. I could tell it was the school for me when I did not want to leave at the end of the weekend.
4. My Major.
My major is one of the things that attracted me to Eastern university. Not only does Eastern have a range of majors, but what made it so attractive to me was the specializations that I could pick with my major. I'm an English Major, and out of literature, journalism and writing concentrations, I, of course, picked writing. (DUH!)
5. God.
Last but not least, I wanted to feel closer to God. I have always wanted to develop a healthy relationship with God, and at Eastern, through their Christian influenced teachings, as well as chapel services, I can really grow and develop my relationship with God, so it blossoms into something beautiful.
Some people would look at Eastern University and think, "Oh, I would never go there," and that is completely fine. Not every school is going to be the right fit, and I encourage anyone to find their right fit whether it be across the country, religious, non-religious, small, or large. However, Eastern University was the perfect fit for me, and I would not change a thing.
