The day he walked in my house, he had this look on his face, as if he owned it and we were his tenants. He was beautiful and calm, but also charming. For those who don't know me, I'm a feline lady. I used to be one of those people who would just constantly obsess over cats by watching videos of them, going to PetSmart just to pet cats for an hour and bought notebooks that had kittens on them.
When I asked my mom and dad if I could get one, they would always say "No," and that I was barely able to take care of myself, how could I ever take care of a cat? That made me really mad because I was not a child anymore. I was able to take care of myself very well and they weren't even aware of that. This all changed when I saw one of my friends post a picture of the newborn kittens that a cat had, and I just decided to go ahead and pick it up. When I came home from school, I decided to tell my mom and surprisingly, she wasn't mad. For the first time, my mom did not refuse and even accepted to go get the kitten with me. We picked him up, and my mom fell in love with him.
He was so small and adorable that I knew from that moment on, my life would never be the same since I had the responsibility to take care of a living being who was separated so early from his mother. After a week, my mom gave him milk and we realized he had diarrhea. I wasn't sure if this was a problem or not since this was my first pet. I read about it online and it turned out that it was actually very dangerous. Words cannot explain how upset and sad I was when I realized he was sick and could die of dehydration. I cried for the entire day and even skipped class to take care of him.
So I made an appointment with the vet, and he gave us medicine to give him and within a day or two, he was better and I was the happiest person. It's just really hard to know that you have the responsibility of a small kitten because you need to give them special food, and extra care since they're so small.
Having a kitten really changed my life because I became a truly more responsible person, proved my parents that I not only took care of myself but also of a kitten. I think everyone should get a pet because you really have something to look forward to when you come home, or even wake up. The silly things my kitten does lights up my day; they really calm you down when things are hectic. When you're stressed out or upset, and you see your kitten just calmly walking or just sitting, you feel like the world just stops, and suddenly everything is okay. They don't care about anything, so you learn to be like them; calm and reposed. My cat has taught me a lot over the past few weeks, whether it be to not stress out about much ..or to ignore people better.
