As you grow older, the excitement of Halloween never fades through teach passing year. Every time the leaves begin to change and start to fall and a chill comes in the air you can feel it coming: there's hay rides, candy filling the stores, everything is decorated, and pumpkins are everywhere. Now while there's still that excitement that comes with it every year, some things about Halloween have changed since you were a little kid.
1. The costumes.
They've gotten somehow smaller throughout the years despite your now larger body. It's no longer those big cheesy 90's costumes, and face paint. Because nothing says sexy like Halloween. Costumes aren't just Disney characters, nearly anything can be made into a costume now, which does make it hard to figure out what people are supposed to be.
2. The day of the week.
It used to be, if Halloween fell on any day other than Friday or Saturday it meant going out early and hoping someone would still be handing out candy. Or it meant the only source of candy was at church trunk or treats. Apparently once you get out of high school, parties can happen any night of the week, and there's worse things that happen than going into a candy coma.
3. Trick or Treat.
We don't go out and door to door anymore asking for candy, but trust me, being in college, I would kill for boat loads of free candy. Now that you're an adult (physically, not necessarily mentally yet) you do one of two things for Halloween. The first is staying in and watching old Disney Halloween specials (hello Halloween Town and Hocus Pocus), while eating cookies and candy, maybe while carving some pumpkins. Or you could do the totally opposite of that and get crazy dressed up and go to a party. Whichever is perfectly fine for having fun on Halloween.
4. School.
Now that you're in college, the entire month of October isn't dedicated to Halloween; there's no art and coloring activities. You don't get to dress up and go to your class' Halloween party and eat snacks while watching movies instead of normal class activities. Yes, I'm sure that you could still technically dress up and go to your college classes but it would be an odd thing for the rest of your classmates.
While a thousand things have changed about us as we've gotten older, the love for Halloween will never fade away. We may do things different, way different in many cases, but dressing up and being with friends will always be part of why Halloween is still the best time of year.
