How Each "Friends" Character Taught us Something Important

Rachel:

It IS possible to be a spoiled brat and come out like a working woman champ. She was a spoiled Daddy’s girl on the first few episodes after she ran out on Barry Farber at the wedding. She even taught us that it is possible to use shoes and hats in a metaphor. Rachel also taught us that it’s acceptable to change your major if there isn’t any parking at the psychology building.

Monica:

There are times all of us have a little Monica in us when we feel the need to compulsively clean whether it be middle of the day or those random 2 AM moments. We also like to make a Monica the chef of would be proud meals. Another thing that Monica taught us is how to be a good friend to everyone. Monica took in Rachel when she had nowhere to go, she took in Phoebe and Rachel after the fire that destroyed Phoebe’s apartment. She also cooked that meal for Rachel and Joshua from Bloomingdales and let Rachel call it her own cooking.

Phoebe:

Oh, Pheebs. “Wait that’s short for Phoebe? I thought that’s just what we called each other?” Phoebe taught us how to live carefreely and like a kid again. She taught us it doesn’t matter how you look when you run in the park because it’s just for a second and then you’re gone. She taught us it’s important to forgive and catch up with family members and siblings even if they’re mean and selfish and have been lying to you about being thirty-one. Phoebe has literally come from absolutely nothing to having a great life and being the sunshine in everyone's life despite her horrendous childhood, she's definitely a great role model in that aspect. She taught us to always look on the bright side.

Joey:

How you doin’? Everyone needs a lesson from Joey when it comes to talking to girls, or even sex advice. He taught us it is perfectly okay to live blissfully ignorant to the world around you. He also taught us how to do the absolute best Chandler impression in the entire world. He taught us to not lie on your resume about being fluent in French and being able to dance, and to not give up on our dreams, like he never gave up on his acting dreams, even when he wanted to blow his pretty dumb brains out when Phoebe was his agent.

Chandler:

Many lessons are to be learned from Chandler Muriel Bing. First is being a good friend to Joey and Ross. Now, some would disagree with that because of the Joey and Kathy situation, and Chandler begins dating Monica, Ross’s little sister, and maybe fooling around with Joey’s sister and not knowing which one, but he also found a way to apologize and correct his mistakes. He did not have the best childhood and has made the best of what he could. Chandler taught us an important lesson that if you’re not happy with your career, it is perfectly acceptable to restart your career at whatever age.

Ross:

We learned from Ross what it is to be so incredibly passionate about what you study, because nobody loves dinosaurs like Ross. Ross taught us that you probably shouldn’t lie about getting an annulment. He taught us that three divorces are not the end of the world. He taught us that love is unconditional and sometimes you need to be best friends with a monkey named Marcel.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
