How COVID-19 has Changed the Way We Commute to Work

To be truthful, the coronavirus pandemic has changed lots of things in our daily activities, and the way we commute to work is one of them. COVID-19 has forced numerous individuals to work from home and avoid any sort of social gathering including public workspaces.

Resultantly, the mode of commuting to work has experienced a significant and unprecedented change.

Let's consider how COVID-19 has changed the way we commute to work.

.A change in the mode of transportation

In the past few decades, there was a focus on the use of public transports among workers in various cities around the world. With public transport, there are fewer traffic congestions as the number of the vehicles on road has reduced. However, the coronavirus pandemic has changed this.

According to the World Health Organization and many other health agencies, social gathering is one of the most prominent ways through which COVID-19 spreads. Therefore, commuting to work via public transport increases the risk of the spread of this disease. As a result of this, there is now a gradual shift from the use of public transport to private car ownership.

Many workers that used to think they didn't need private cars are having a second thought. In fact, some are already getting cars that can reduce the risk of contracting the disease. Also, this has encouraged more individuals to consider getting an electric scooter and other affordable products that can make them commute to work without using public transport.

.Distancing on public transport

While the change in the mode of transportation is imminent for some people, others don't have any other choice than using public transport. Nevertheless, the way these people also commute to work via public transport has changed as there is now distancing on public transport. This distancing means that people don't sit close to each other to reduce the risk of the spread of COVID-19.

Consequently, distancing on public transport has led to a reduction in the passenger capacity of the vehicles. Also, there is a change in the timetables to allow each commuter to enter and exit the vehicle safely without having any physical contact with other commuters. All these changes have come with their challenges and have affected the way we commute to work.

.Fewer people on the road

As a form of response to the coronavirus pandemic, the number of people commuting to work is reducing. Several businesses have started allowing their employees to work from home. Besides, the availability of remote systems and access has further ensured that business owners and managers can monitor the works of their employees without being in the same location. As a consequence of this, we have fewer people on the road.

As COVID-19 vaccines are coming out already, there may be a new change in the way we commute to work. Nonetheless, nothing is cast in stone; hence, there are still lots of things that we will get to understand and experience as the world continues to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
