You’ll know when the night is right.
Listen to your heartbeat,
The rhythm of your breath
As you place yourself on the moist earth.
Grope your limbs into the dirt
Planting your toes into its surface
Adjust your head
Placing it at the edge
On a 25 degree angle.
Your eyes may fight to open
But wait,
Imagine yourself gliding across the universe
Gripping a cloud
Watching it collapse.
Next forms the dense, hot core
Gathering dust and gas
Establishing your star.
She is one of billions,
But resist from counting
It could hurt her feelings.
Make your journey back to earth
Finally opening your clenched eyes
At the billions upon billions of stars above
Satisfying the immense sky.
Don’t worry though, it won’t take you long to locate yours
But, you can’t just reach out and grab her
This takes time.
Notice her blues, whites, reds
The dim of her light as she blushes
At those who gasp at her beauty.
Get to know her curves,
The way she glistens
Just to show everyone how perfect she is.
At some point you will reach into your pocket
And pull out a long rope
Whipping it into the sea of stars
Fighting the others off
In the treacherous gloom.
When you finally reach your star,
Tenderly wrap it around her.
You may encounter some tugging and pulling--
You must resist gravity.
Together, you will reach the stratosphere
Floating down.
Put her in a jar
For your bedside table
When you’re lonely at night.
