How to Get Away With Murder is a new ABC legal drama series that began this past September. The show was created by Peter Nowalk. Shonda Rhimes, who works on both Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal (shows we all know and love), is the producer of the series.
It follows the life of a brilliant law professor, Annalise Keating, played by Viola Davis, at a Philadelphia university, as well as the lives of a select few of her students she hires to work at her firm. They are Connor Walsh (the pretty boy), Michaela Pratt (the over-achiever), Asher Millstone (the competitor), Laurel Castillo (the quiet one), and Wes Gibbons (the underdog).
Every show features a new one of Annalise’s clients in addition to an ongoing murder case that occurred on campus. Some of these cases include a wife who attempts to murder her husband, a millionaire who is accused of murdering his wife, and fraud within a major corporation. The murder case that happened at the university is seen through interesting flashbacks that tend to leave you with more questions than answers. Each episode also focuses on a different character, which gives the viewers a better idea of who he or she is as a person. Still not convinced you should watch it? Here are a few more reasons why How to Get Away With Murder is considered the new television series to watch:
1. Viola Davis is a total badass! She is so wickedly smart and tough that you can’t help but want to be her. Even when her character’s life gets a little messy, she handles it with complete class!
2. It engages your mind. Every episode forces you to think through all the crazy plot points, not to mention all the cool legal jargon you will learn.
3. It has Matt McGorry from Orange is the New Black. Do you remember the sweet officer from the Netflix hit TV show? Well, he’s back! Although, in this series his character is slightly less lovable (or maybe that’s just me).
4. Bandwagon effect. It is one of the most popular shows on television for a reason folks! Everyone else is watching it, so you should too!
5. It is fast-paced. I solemnly swear that you will never feel like the show is lagging in any shape, form, or fashion. Every minute of it is enticing! It just about kills you when it is time for a commercial! Week after week, the show leaves you begging for more!
Overall, the series’ plot line is filled with twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat and a surprised look on your face. It’s never too late to start watching!
Tune in to ABC on Thursdays at 9PM to watch.
