Things I Hope My Mom Knows

I hope my mom truly understands how much I love her and what she has done for me in my life. If she doesn’t know, well she will now. My words cannot describe how much I love my mother like any other person can’t describe how much they love their mother, father, or guardian. To describe my love and what my mother does for me every day, I am going to describe her actions.

I hope my mom knows she is my motivation. Without your discipline and love to make me know right from wrong, I would not be in the positions I am today. You motivate me to get up out of bed every day and continue on with life like nothing happened the previous day or hour. You tell me everything is okay and help out in any aspect you can whether it just be a hug or helping me out with the situation. Mom, you motivate me to improve myself and make those around me smile. I can’t go anywhere without putting a smile on my face because I know my demeanor effects those around me.

I hope my mom knows she inspires me. I could never be half the woman you are and continue to be every single day of your life. You always seek to improve your qualities and turn negativity into positivity even when it is hard sometimes. The hardest situations are made easier with your experience and willingness to take care of things. No matter the type of day anyone is having, you somehow know the right words to make them smile. To be a little personal, you inspire me in the aspect of academics. You were the first one to graduate in your family and now you are working on your masters while teaching the younger generations in their school endeavors.

I hope my mom knows she is my hero. From taking me to the doctor on my sick days all the way down to doing my laundry for me when I didn’t get a chance to do it. Even though I am getting older, I will always be your baby and you will always look out for me.

I hope my mom knows she is protective in a good way. Like any parent or guardian, they want you to have the best out of your life and make it better than what they had. Even if the protective mama bear comes out, I know you have the best intentions and may see something wrong that I do not. It is very rare when you are wrong and you make sure we say “You were right.”

I hope my mom knows that she embarrasses me. I also mean this in a good way. Honestly, if you don’t try to embarrass your mom as payback, where is the fun? The memories are priceless and it’s what makes the bond so special. This is also why I wait a while to bring a boy to meet my parents because I’m not ready for the embarrassing memories quite yet.

I love my mom and I hope she never forgets that. I hope you shared or recalled some of the reasons why you love your mom, your father, or your guardian just like I have. Mothers are special and will always be there for their children. She may inspire you, motivate you, embarrass you, and protect you in different ways but you understand the ways in which she does each thing for you specifically. So thank you to the moms everywhere for raising your kids to who they are today.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
