Being in college, my days are centered around my future. My education classes give me the skills I need to be the best teacher I can be. My work study gives me real life experience. My social life gives me long term relationships that will get me through the hard times. It seems as if everything I do is to enhance the chances of me having a better future.
There is one thing that I always seem to forget: I can plan and plan all I want for my future, but I am not the one in control, and I am not the one that I am living for. It comes to the point where we have to let go and let God. He is here for us, and He has a plan bigger and better than anything we could imagine.
Whatever walk of life you are in, you will have a future, and God promised you the same things, as well. We are loved, we are cared for and not only is God looking after us right now, but He loves us so much that He is thinking about our future. He is going to use our little lives for His great glory. That in itself gives me hope.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11, NIV
I know, it is easier said than done. Believe me, I want control as much as the next person. However, it is a much greater relief to pray and ask God to take over than it is to sit in front of your planner or your phone trying to fit everything and everyone into their perfect spots.
God is here for us. There is absolutely nothing wrong with thinking about the future, but it is even more important to pray and meditate on the word of God and realize that He is the one who has our best interests in mind. He has a plan, and I promise you it's a pretty darn good one.
"In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps." Proverbs 16:9, NIV
Sometimes, it's easy to get frustrated. You feel like nothing is going right. Maybe you're working all day, every day with seemingly nothing in return. You feel no matter how hard you try, it seems as if you'll never be enough. But God works in mysterious ways. He is at work in your life.
I am a human and I am flawed. Oftentimes, I need to be hit upside the head multiple times before a message gets through my thick skull. It's easy to forget and become overwhelmed once again, but my hope is that this article will just be an extra reminder and ray of hope.
