It’s true when they say, "all small towns have their hidden gems." In my hometown Media, Pennsylvania, the places that put us on the map can be found along the infamous State street. This strip of restaurants smack dab in the middle of the town’s borough has a legacy of housing a plethora of mom & pop style places to grub your heart out. Being a local has granted me the opportunity to enjoy the best of the best as I share with you my all time favorites.
Diego’s Cantina & Tequila Bar
Fairly new to the Media scene, Diego's offers up a unique theme with familiar tastes of Mexico’s colorfully diverse culture. If you enjoy your meals with an extra kick of spice and your margaritas nice and strong, then this tequila wonderland has your name written all over it. Since turning 21, I’ve been stopping in at this little slice of paradise quite frequently as the mood is always light and fun with the music and entertainment to match.
Little Anthony’s
This family owned pizzeria has been in business since the day I moved to Media. Everything about it feels homey, from the Italian owners, comfort food style menu, and the laid back atmosphere that ties it all together. My best friend and I became regulars of this place back in high school when we discovered they have the most tantalizing hot wings you’ll ever eat. Safe to say I’ll never turn down a date to this home away from home.
Margaret Kuo’s Restaurant
One of the more upscale dine outs in Media, this oriental styled restaurant features Chinese and Japanese inspired cuisines with decadent signature dishes that you’ll find nowhere else. If you have a foreign pallet, their array of seafood, sushi, and voluptuous appetizers will be sure to leave you completely satisfied. This place is perfect for a family celebration or even a romantic date night. So be sure to check it out whenever you’re feeling adventurous.
Seven Stones
Opened in 2005, this cafe prides itself on originality. Based around a single brand of coffee that the owners wished to introduce in a suburban setting, the simplistic dream was born. The cafe has come a long way from the single stand of sandwiches and sole coffee maker to what is now a widely popular getaway for the local younger crowd. Their menu has grown from small cut recipes into pastries, juices, teas/ coffees, and full on courses for all your soul feeding needs.
O’Malley’s Ice Cream Pub
Ice cream in general already holds a special place in my heart and O’Malley’s is no exception. This magnificent and mouthwatering escape in the heart of Media has been my summer hot spot for years and plenty to come. Walking into the pub transports you into a state of nostalgia right out of the 90’s, right down to the decor. With over 20 various flavors of ice cream to choose from, which can be made into milkshakes and sundaes alike, there’s enough sweetness to go around in everybody’s hometown. Don’t forget to shop for some throwback candy products while you're there.
