That illustrious title of Homecoming King or Queen that brings so much popularity and fame around campus....well not really. The Facebook posts come out and the twit avatars are changed so that everyone and their moms will know who is running for Homecoming King and Queen. The candidates all list their achievements even if most people are going to remember that information when it actually comes to voting. Sadly, most of the time people go on looks or the experiences they had with certain candidates from class or that party over the weekend.
The stairs end up looking like a rainbow from all the chalking that takes place during the week. Each organization tries their best bribe effort in order to get the numerous amounts of people walking through the plaza to vote for them. There are also different events throughout the week leading up to the Homecoming football game on friday night under the lights against Fresno St. It is on ESPN 2, which is pretty impressive so that might give you another incentive to head to the game besides the tailgate if you have no interest or care about who actually wins Homecoming King and Queen.
I will be voting for two different reasons. The first is because I know most of the candidates and think some of them will make a pretty cool Homecoming King and Queen. The second is that I don't get hounded anymore as I am making that simple walk to my classes. That "I Voted" sticker is basically the Holy Grail for students and it makes you feel like Harry Potter with his invisibility cloak on. If you have some spare time on your hands, do not feel like being hounded for 5 hours on Wednesday, or really have a striking interest in Homecoming King or Queen, I urge you to go out and vote. All the candidates are taking time out of their busy schedules to run so it shouldn't be that hard to literally sit at a computer and click a few buttons.
Have a good week and Happy Voting!
