Whether You Are A Homebody Or A Social Butterfly, Live Your Life To The Fullest

It doesn't matter how you live your life, but live it, don't just exist in it.

Whether You Are A Homebody Or A Social Butterfly, Live Your Life To The Fullest
Taylor Cust

We all know those people that, at any given time, you can almost guarantee they are at home. These are what we like to call homebodies. People who just love the comfort of their own home and see no need to leave it.

We also know those people that, regardless of what day it is or how early or late it may be, they will always be in the middle of something somewhere. These are what we call social butterflies, people who love the people, the music, and the good times.

Most people think that you can only be one or the other. In most cases, they aren't wrong, usually if you find someone who is more home bodied it is rare that you will see them enjoying the nightlife regularly. The same goes for the latter, often times when looking for someone with that social butterfly type personality, you will find them out and about in almost any social setting, usually talking to someone.

Now, these things don't mean that someone can't be both. Or at least demonstrate the defining characteristics in one way or another. Just because someone likes to be curled up watching a movie in the comfort of their own home doesn't mean that they won't want to go to the clubs or a party with their friends over the weekend. And again, just because someone may love the nightlife doesn't mean that you'll never see them hanging out at home one weekend, just relaxing and watching a movie. Each type has its own pros and cons. For example, the pros of being more of a homebody is you save money, you're often times more productive, and less likely to become sick. However, with good comes bad, some cons to being a homebody can be a development of social disorders and/or anxiety, lack of opportunity, and even just a rather dull lifestyle which may later be regretted.

In contrast, being a social butterfly has the benefits of meeting new people, growing in knowledge from experience, and living a life you can tell stories about later. On the contrary, being a very outgoing person can lead to more illness, more spending, and an increased likelihood of addiction.

Just because these things could be side effects of having either one of these personality types, this doesn't mean that those things will happen indefinitely. You may experience all of these or none of these, they are just possibilities.

Regardless of what kind of person you are or claim to be it is okay as long as it is all done healthily. Meaning, knowing your limits, taking care of your body, and not spending all of your life out at the bar or wrapped up in the same pajamas binge watching for three days straight. Either way, I encourage you to live your life, not just exist in it. Life is entirely too short and time moves way too fast to just let it pass you by.

I promise one day you will look back at your life and all of the things that you did or didn't do and think wow. Will your wow be because you spent your life just going through the motions or because you went out and lived? The choice is yours, choose wisely.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
