Friends are friends. But, nothing beats your home friends. Some people in college absolutely despise coming home on breaks either because they dropped all of their friends from home or they do not get along with their family. Even as a senior in college, I am still beyond excited for every break I get to come home to spend time with my beyond amazing family and group of friends. Growing up with the people that have seen you go through your awkward stages and more and have stuck by you through all of that forms such an unbreakable bond. At home, I am so grateful that I get to come home and am surrounded by such a close-knit group of friends. They have seen me at my highs and lows and everything in between, and that they still somehow stick around. They have seen your whole cycle of life, and sometimes even when you do not want to hear it, they know you better than yourself. Your friends from home just "get it."
Your friends from home are your comfort. You can yell at them, scream at them, be the silliest person around them, and give them the cold hearted truth when they do not want to hear it. Your home friends will tell you how it is because they are only looking out for your future and your best interest. Your friends from home will never ever judge you. You tell each other things and always do the craziest adventures together that are undoubtedly unforgettable. You have the most humorous inside jokes that no one else could ever relate to if you explained it to them. They always know what mood you are in right when you walk in the door. Meaning whether you are happy, sad, or angry they always know how you are feeling and what exactly to do to help fix that emotion.
Another perk of being with you hometown friends is that you treat their families like your own family. You have known all of their parents and siblings for years, and know that if anything were to happen you could always count on them; that is truly another blessing. You will never find any people in your life that are so honest, loyal, and nonjudgmental like your friends from home. I am thankful every day for the wonderful souls that I get to come home to and could not even begin to imagine my life without them. Friends aren't easy to find. You aren't born into being friends with someone like you are your family. Your friends get to choose if they want to stay or leave, or care about you or not. So, some food for thought, don't lose sight of the great friends you have in your life and do not take advantage of it. Nothing is more important than friendship and remember to thank your friends for what they do for you.
