Being home for the holidays is wonderful! Seeing your family so excited that your home makes you feel loved, and the opportunity to hang out with old friends brings back great memories. After a few weeks it can start to feel stressful, and you may feel like you’ve overstayed your welcome. Make the best of your break by keeping a few things in mind this holiday season.
Respect.
Keep in mind that you are a guest. If you’re staying with family, know that they have adjusted to life with you out of the house, and things may have changed. Put your dishes away, make your bed, and don’t use up all the hot water. The best way to enjoy time with loved ones is by not driving them insane, and they’ll most likely return the favor.
Alone Time.
You are on a BREAK. It’s important to take time for yourself and unwind so you feel rested once the holidays are over. Read, paint, drive around, or take a nap. Being by yourself can recharge you so you don’t get annoyed with friends and family, and vice versa.
Remember the Good Times.
Enjoy the memories from the old days. Look at old pictures, reminisce on past holidays and gatherings, and remember why you take the time to get together and celebrate life. It’s also a great time to look forward to the future and be thankful for where you’re at now.
Say ‘Thank You’.
After it’s all said and done, the gifts are unwrapped and the food Is eaten, remember to say thank you to the hosts. They’ve given you a break and a place to stay, so the least you can do is help clean up and say thank you, and maybe they’ll have you back again next year!
