Home For The Holidays

What I'm looking forward to over winter break.

With winter break being just around the corner, I can't seem to stop myself from compiling a list in my head of all the things I want to do when I get home for break! Although being away from 'Cuse and my friends for a whole month is going to be hard, I am so excited to go home!

Here are a few reasons why...

1. Seeing my dog, Lexie.

I miss this girl more than anything. I cannot wait for a month full of snuggles and walks around the neighborhood. She always cheers me up and puts a smile on my face and it's been so hard to be away from her.

2. Home-cooked meals.

Graham dining hall gets old pretty damn quick. I'm so excited to sit down at my kitchen table with my family and eat a comforting and delicious home-cooked meal because nothing tastes better than your mama's cooking.

3. Sleeping in my own bed.

My bed at home is by far the easiest hello and the hardest goodbye. I can't wait to cozy up in my bed and be able to actually stretch out and relax.

4. Seeing my family (of course)!!

The fact that my mom, dad, brother, sister, and I are all going to be reunited over winter break warms my heart. With my siblings both as college graduates and me as a current college student, it is so hard to find time where we all can be together, so the time where the 5 of us get to be together is something that I truly cherish.

5. Seeing my high school friends.

I am so excited to see my high school friends, many of whom I haven't seen since August! I can't wait to start from right where we left off and fall back into old times!

6. Driving.

To say that I miss driving and the ability to go places whenever I please is an understatement. I am so ready to not have to #UberEverywhere.

7. A belated Hanukkah celebration!

Hanukkah fell early this year so it will already be over by the time I get home. Fortunately, my family decided to celebrate Hanukkah when we're all together, so I'm not missing out on any candle-lighting, dreidel spinning, or latke eating!

I wish you all happy holidays and a great new year!

25 Things Every Millennial Woman Wants Underneath Her Xmas Tree

*hint, hint*

Believe it or not, Christmas season is upon us! *cue the Christmas music*

OK, maybe it's a little early for that but never too early to start the Christmas wishlist. Here are a few items that may be at the top of your college student's wish list.

1. Starbucks gift cards

The multiple weekly trips to Starbucks are starting to add up. One of the best gifts I could receive this Christmas is money added to my Starbucks account to fuel my ability to get through this next semester.

2. Any gift card really

Let's be real, as a broke college student, the less money I have to actually spend at the grocery store/Chipotle/Panera/anywhere the better. Gift cards are a gift from God because you can get exactly what you what without the stress of having to pay for it!

3. Leggings

Lulu Lemon, Old Navy, TJ Maxx, whatever your preference on leggings, they are essential to everyday life as a college student, yet a very annoying thing to have to purchase on your own so getting them as a gift is definitely a treat.

4. Socks

Lame, I know but so essential. Bring on the fuzzy socks!

5. Candles

If we're being honest these are probably banned in all of our apartments/dorms but we've probably burned at least two all the way down already this semester so we could use a couple new ones. Stress Relief from Bath and Body Works and Volcano are the BEST.

6. Big sweaters

Absolutely essential to get through the winter. Name something comfier than a giant sweater, leggins and fuzzy socks. It's not possible.

This one is a given. Probably the best gift a college student could receive.

8. New shoes

Whether it's new running shoes, Hunter Boots, going out shoes, you can never have too many and these are always on my wish list.

9. Subscriptions to monthly care packages

So I just recently discovered that this is a thing. You can actually subscribe college students to receive monthly care packages. How amazing is that? There's nothing better than checking your mail during a hard week and discovering a care package with snacks.

10. Snacks

Another lame one I know but seriously snacks are another annoying thing to buy yourself in college so when it comes from someone else, they're even better. You can never have too many and they save us so many times throughout the semester.

11. Mugs

If your college student is anything like me, you already have 18 coffee mugs but each one is important to you and you can NEVER have too many. There's just so many cute ones out there!

12. Cute decorations for the future apartment

Whether the student is currently living in an apartment or will be next year, a cute decoration or two is such an exciting thing to receive and will fuel our eager desire to start designing.

13. Coffee

The key to survival in college, and expensive for us to buy on our own so again, such a great gift to receive this Christmas.

14. S'well water bottle

These are so trendy right now and so necessary for college students to take with them, whether it's to class or to the gym.

15. Makeup

If you know your student well and know their favorites, this is a great gift idea.

16. Books

Okay this one perhaps is risky. Some find this one of the greatest gifts of all time, especially if you happen to get them one on their wish list or it could perhaps be not such a great gift if the student isn't a "reader."

17. Scarves

A great "go to" gift. You can never go wrong with getting a college girl a stylish infinity scarf.

18. Subscription to Spotify

Nothing is more annoying than the $5-$15 that comes out of our bank accounts every month but you could change that by covering that cost for us ;).

19. College Apparel

One of the greatest gifts for a college student is more t-shirts/sweatshirts to represent their school because lets be honest, you can never have too many.

20. Blanket

Nothing beats a soft TJ-Maxx blanket to keep one your bed. This is guaranteed to make your college student happy without breaking the bank.

21. Phone case

If your student is anything like me, they get sick of their phone case pretty quickly and its always exciting to be able to switch things up.

22. Gum

Okay yes, this one is a little weird but gum is essential after your morning coffee and goes pretty quickly so its always nice to have some extra packs laying around when its needed.

23. Nail Polish

Nail polish is one of those things I never buy for myself but is essential and new colors are always an exciting gift to receive.

24. Candy

The ultimate "stocking stuffer."

25. Love

When in doubt (or if you're broke), love is the greatest gift of all!

Treat Yo Self To These 10 Gifts For Christmas And Say Sorry To People You Didn't Get Any Gifts For

There is no Christmas rule that says you can't get a gift for yourself

It's the most wonderful time of the year, which means you essentially have an obligation to give a little more than your presence and a half-hearted hug to the many loved ones in your life. Office parties, white elephant get-togethers, and that's not even including your family Christmas gig where relatives you haven't seen all year pat you on the head and ask you how your love life is.

I, for one, quite enjoy it all (minus the last part). I'm a big sucker for gift exchanges, and, as cheesy as it sounds, I really do believe that it's more about the giving than the receiving.

Sometimes, though, I think enough is certainly enough. I've just army-crawled through finals, and I'm still working to pay rent. I definitely feel like I deserve a special Christmas present myself. And who better to buy it for me than me?

Do you feel like you could use a little self-love this holiday season too? Well, here's a list of ten items to make this season go from obligatory to celebratory.

1. Nice dinner at a fancy restaurant

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like the best way to show myself some love is with some wonderful food that I don't have to make. Sure, you have to pay someone, but it tastes so much better.

This could be your die-hard favorite restaurant or something new that you've never tried. Whichever way you feel like treating yourself, definitely spring for dessert. You're worth it.

2. Massage

Yes, I am the white girl who gets regular massages, and I'm definitely not afraid to admit it. It's a wonderful way to relax, it relieves all the tension that college is prone to give, and it's an hour(ish) that's basically all about me and my needs.

You might call it selfish, but I'll call it a nice treat for myself because I work hard.

3. WWF adoption kit

This may seem obscure, but it's most definitely a worthwhile gift for oneself. The holidays are traditionally seen as a time for giving, so this is much like donating to the Salvation Army or helping out at a soup kitchen, BUT this gift also gives back.

This metaphorical adoption of an endangered animal from the World Wildlife Fund gets you all sorts of goodies, from a gift bag to an info card about your animal to an actual stuffed representation of your animal as well (I know, get lit). This also lets you choose which animal to donate, making it super cool.

It's really a win-win: You're technically donating your money in a positive way, which is super awesome, and now you can also tell people you've adopted an actual tiger.

4. That one thing you've wanted for a really long time

You know the one. Everyone has that one "thing" they've wanted for a hot minute, but it's either too much money or not the most practical purchase in the world.

Well, I'm saying go for it. Unless your big-ticket item is a hit man, treat yo'self.

5. A cheesy gift basket set

Literally walk into Wal-Mart, go to the gift section, and get one of those ridiculous baskets. It's the type of impersonal nonsense that I wouldn't want to get one of my friends or family folks.

I will most certainly get one for myself, though. They have super cool things like movie baskets or DIY Bloody Mary sets.

And I don't even need to wrap it.

6. The largest stuffed bear you can possibly afford

This may be a stereotypical Valentine's Day present, but you can love yourself any day of the year. Get that teddy bear, boo, you deserve it!

7. A nap day

I don't know about the rest of you college folk, but I'm several days into this break, and I still don't feel rested.

Take it upon yourself to dedicate a day to literally just lay in your bed, napping and recuperating, with small breaks for bathroom and snack runs. Do what you gotta to make this happen, whether you need to add it to your family's Google calendar, take off work, or escape into the great outdoors away from civilization.

It's your gift to yourself, after all.

8. Socks

As the great Albus Dumbledore once said around this time of year, "One can never have enough socks." Also, if you're the one purchasing them, you can get super cute ones like these as opposed to the standard white ones that your grandma tends to buy you.

9. A blanket

Now, I'm not talking about some dollar throw blanket that's about the size of your left leg. I mean a quality piece of material made of fabric so soft it makes you cry.

Maybe even spring for a heated blanket, 'cause you're worth it.

10. A movie date

There are some pretty great movies coming out right now, and nothing beats viewing them with surround sound, reclining theater seats, and movie theater popcorn.

Grab a couple of friends or go stag. Either way, you're sure to have a smashing time.
