How was your semester?
When do you get your grades back?
Did you find a job yet?
You know you can't just sit at home this summer right?
This is my second summer since going to college and coming back home for the summer. And let me tell you, I face the same situations every year.
To my parents: "What's for dinner?"
To which they answer: "I don't know, what are you making?"
Well, there is no food in this house, so, cereal? Oh wait, there is no milk either. Let's try soup? What do you mean it's summer, there is no soup in the house? Not even ramen?! FINE I'LL JUST STARVE.
Everyone to me: "Sooo…any word on a job? You can't just sit around all summer."
I am looking, I swear. Yes, I have a resume. I am in college, you know ... but maybe I should just update it a little bit.
When my parents go to bed at 8, "What do you mean you're going to bed this early?"
"Well sweetie, we have to be up early because we have to work. Speaking of which, find a job yet?"
Okay, well, I will just stay up til 2 a.m. and watch movies with the cat. *insert palms up emoji*
"How late did you stay up??"
Uhhh, not 'till 10:30… Why am I still so tired then? Well, I actually went to bed at 2 a.m.… Guess I'll be taking a nap today!
Being at school meant I get to schedule when I want to go to class, depending on availability, so this past semester my first class was at 10 a.m. so when my parents get up at 7:30 it's pretty early for me.
Something positive about being home: my cat.
Missing my cat was definitely something that was hard about going back to school.
But get this, my cat wont even cuddle with me now that I'm home. It's as if she is punishing me from being gone for so long. And now she wants nothing to do with me. I guess that is summertime with a cat, though.
Actually doing my laundry.
This year at school I lived in an apartment, and I had to pay for my laundry at a laundromat in the apartment complex. To wash and dry my clothes was $3 each load!
One of the biggest perks of coming back home is no longer having to pay for my laundry. But coming along with doing laundry at home, I have to wash my parent's clothes. My dad will often times spill taco juice on his shirt or get grease on his pants and wants me to get out the stains. Dad tells I am much better at getting the stains out than my mom, sorry mom.
Let me tell you this though, it is SO much better than having to pay $3 on a single load of laundry.
Coming home for this summer is something I know I will cherish when I am older and graduated from school. One of the best parts about coming home though, is most people think you just hang out and relax, but in reality every college student nation wide is trying to work and make as much money as possible in three short months in hopes of having enough money to last through at least through the winter break so I can resume my summer job for about three weeks.
