In my opinion, the holidays are the best time of the year. You have no classes, get to see people you haven't seen in a while and have a month that's stress-free. If you've been living on your own for a while, coming home for the holidays can be exciting and challenging while trying to get back in the swing of things at home.
Your first day back, you revel at the wonder that is the kitchen. After eating nothing but Ramen and dorm food for months, you decide to cook everything in sight because you've been so deprived since August.
Your siblings make sassy comments about the absurd amount of food you've been eating and remind you that the freshman 15 is real and your gym membership is still active at home. Thanks.
You make plans to meet up with all of your hometown friends that you haven't seen in a while. To be courteous, you decide to let your parents know where you'll be. When they ask how late you'll be and you respond with an "I don't know, late," they decide they're going to try to give you a curfew and you're just like...
You finally meet up with everyone and the excitement takes over. You spend hours catching up and swapping stories from your crazy semesters and reminiscing on your antics from the past.
Then Christmas comes along. While you're excited to see everyone, you're dreading the millions of questions that are sure to come up from your relatives. You arrive and first thing that happens is your distant uncle comes in for a hug smelling of dust bunnies and mold.
After you escape to a corner far away, you start getting nervous because everyone keeps asking you the same questions over and over, and you know you don't have the responses they're looking for.
"How's school going?"
"Are you dating anyone?"
"What are you going to do with that degree?"
After about an hour of this ego crushing interrogation, you're just like ...
After Christmas, you're ready for a little self esteem pick-me-up. Cue New Year's Eve. You're planning on heading back to campus for this because you need a break from the family at this point. You arrive at your friend's apartment finally free to have a night of uncensored fun.
After spending an hour getting ready, you're feeling great. Your hair and outfit are on point and you're ready to take on the night.
It's almost time for people to start arriving and you figure the party has basically started anyways ...
NYE is in full swing and you're having a blast back with your friends from campus. It's almost midnight, and you're looking around the room for someone to get under the mistletoe with and then you see them. Your crazy ex from first semester.
You make eye contact and you're just like ...
Thank goodness for you, your friends swoop in just in time to save you from awkward conversation and get you away just in time for midnight.
After New Year's, the rest of break drags on pretty slowly. Your days are filled with Netflix binges and work. You find yourself actually counting down the days until you have class again because you can't wait to get back to campus and not be bored all day.
Finally, the day comes! It's time to move back onto campus and reunite with everyone you've been away from for a whole month. You're feeling excited and rejuvenated, ready for spring semester.
