Are You A Holosexual? Simply Nailogical's Internet Sensation

Fun fact: I love doing all kinds of nail art on my nails. It’s been a “hobby” or an “obsession” of mine for four years. I love doing it and the final product which includes “oohs” and “aahs” from everyone who sees them. Of course, I didn’t just know what designs to paint on my nails. I searched into YouTube nail art tutorials and began to follow creators like Cutepolish, elleandish and HannahRoxNails. It wasn’t until I saw the infamous “Polish Mountain” video that I was introduced to Simply Nailogical, also known as Cristine. A sarcastic, "holosexual" who truly is not like any other nail artist on YouTube.

After the release of "Polish Mountain," the video received over 18 million views on YouTube. It then created the "100 layers challenge" trend that has about two million videos related to the challenge. To Simply Nailogical, it is still a shock to her on how she accidentally started this sensation. As stated in the beginning of the video, she only did this because her dedicated "holosexuals" requested her to put on every single nail polish she owned.

What is a "holosexual"?

Cristine created the name "holosexual" to express her love for holographic nail polish. She loves it so much that every video she uploads as "nail porn" of holographic nail polish as an intro and it's so hilarious. Ultimately she embraced her "holosexuality" to the point that she calls her subscribers holosexuals. Before the release of "Polish Mountain,"
Simply Nailogical had roughly 900 thousand holosexuals. The day the video was
released, she gained over 13,000 subscribers in one day. In just seven months, 2.4 million more people discovered their holosexuality making Cristine's subscriber count to over 3.3 million users.

Holographic nail polish soars up top

So what exactly defines holographic nail polish compared to glitter nail polish? The answer is that holographic nail polish reflects rainbows while glitter doesn't at all.

This is the true definition of "holo."

These are glitter nails. Comparing them next to each other you can see the difference between the two.

There are two types of holographic nail polish

Linear

Super smooth nail polish that contains fine "holo" particles and reflects its rainbows in a distinct line or shape.

Scattered

This type of holographic nail polish is perfect to paint over another color or design to make it extra pretty.

Another technique nail artist's use to get all the holographic glitter on their nails is "sponging" on the nail polish onto the nail. It's done by painting on the polish onto a disposable makeup sponge, then applying that onto the nail. The sponge soaks up all the liquid of the nail polish leaving behind just the glitter.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
