Ho! Ho! Hold On A Moment! December Isn't All About Christmas?

Although it may feel like, especially when living the US, December isn't just a month about Christmas.

Ho! Ho! Hold On A Moment! December Isn't All About Christmas?

Far too often do we think about only the things around us, often leaving out things that are right in front of us and surrounding other people.

As Americans, December is extremely bad for that kind of behavior.

Christmas themed drinks at the stores, Santas in the malls, Christmas music on the radio right after Halloween ends, and movies being (cheesy) Christmas movies showed on Hallmark since SEPTEMBER. In fact, I really don't know if there's a month where a Christmas movie isn't played on that channel.

But what about everyone else? Not everyone celebrates Christmas! It ISN'T an American holiday. We as a country should be EMBRACING the cultural differences residing in our world and lives around us.

Here is a list of other holidays/events being celebrated in the month of December (and a day or two in November, but close enough). Take a moment to look over them and learn from what is new, don't be afraid of the new.

1. Nov. 30 to Dec. 1: Mawlid el-Nabi — Islam

2. Dec. 6: Saint Nicholas Day — Christian

5. Dec. 12: Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe — Catholic

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
