It's the most wonderful time of the year! While some of us on the Asian continent celebrate Christmas festivities, some of us don't. However, we make use of every holiday opportunity possible to throw a 'house party' of course! Besides, what's a holiday without a party? What's a party without your 350,570,7330 relatives there? That's the real question.
Some of us learn over time to stop throwing the party and be the party-goer instead. However, you tend to run into cracks either way.
Things you need to know:
1. You don't have to be a direct relative to call someone aunty or uncle.

2. Never underestimate the power of a hug which turns into this awkward thing.

As Jehan says "its their way of welcoming you into their house, and also their respiratory system". Yay oxygen.
3. Party invitations are never via email, or post. Just a fun phone call.
Which ends up lasting about 3 hours because you talk about everything but the important details of the party. Like the TIME.
4. Oh you expected guests by 7pm? Pop that bottle open at 10pm.
Two sides to this actually:
Party thrower would look like this
Party goer would look like this
Gotta look your best, you know!
5. It is time, to meet everyone.
The trick to this is, just nod and smile at everything being said to you. Most often this is what a conversation would sound like:
Me: Ammi (Mom) can I please just sit there and eat while you go talk to everyone?
Ammi: It's Christmas, come on, be nice. Just one table and we're done.
Thaththi (Dad): I'm just going to go sit at that table with all the dudes and get a drink.
Ammi: Okay. Let's go.
Random Aunty: Aney! Hello, it's been so long since I saw you last! Is this your daughter? (Nope, just a cat walking around.) She has grown up so fast! Did you finish school? What are you studying etc........
Me: Nods, smiles, occasional yes aunty, no aunty. Respond as necessary to the question.
5S: THE DREADED QUESTIONS BY THE AUNTY CLAN.
a. No boyfriend?

c. Do you remember me?
Answer to question: HONESTLY NO I DON'T.
Answer to Aunty: Yes yes of course Aunty why wouldn't I. *nervous giggle*.
Run before the conversation extends.
6. It's 2 a.m. Party's just getting started actually.

How do you know? The singing just started. The alcohol is slowly kicking in.
7. Group photos!
Well done Uncle, well done! Bravo. Great accomplishment for the family.
8. It's 5.30am. Party isn't over, but leave.
Take note: Goodbyes take approximately 25-30minutes.
9. Incase you meet a non-relative and conversations go well that night:
It's fine. You often regret nothing about your feelings towards a family-holiday-house-party. Aziz Ansari, you speak my mind.
10. All in all, good food, goooood music, good fun.
