I remember it like it was yesterday. That feeling of pure bliss and accomplishment after completing my first semester of college. It is both relief and excitement for a series of accomplishments that will begin to unfold throughout the successes of your college years. Finally, the tests, stress and worry is over. Now to a month of just relaxing, but don't let it slip so fast.
So a letter to the freshman after finishing their last finals:
Dear freshie,
I remember being in your shoes all too well. Good job to you. You should be proud. Considering some facts, not everyone makes it to where you are. College is tough, and because of your consistent focus and dedication, you made it. One semester down, but many more to go. Congratulate yourself.
You survived going out on the weekends, including Thursdays, and most of you made it to that crucial lecture at 8 am. You know those nights when home felt so far away and you craved nothing but a homemade meal? Now you get to spend an entire month indulging for the holidays. Life is short. Eat dessert first. You know all those old friends from home you missed or all those high school memories that felt so distant? Now you get to reunite with them and cherish your past while reconnecting with people that helped you grow into the companion that you are. Indulge in the bliss of memories. Remember when you craved for a night of deep sleep and rest in your own bed? You can have that. Even better, you can catch up on your favorite Netflix series you have been dying to watch or re-watch.
You did it, and although this may not seem like such of a milestone for you now, looking back, it is a memory I will cherish, and I hope you will cherish it as well. It will be hard saying a temporary goodbye to all your new friends for a month, and it will be weird coming back for a short, but long time. Make the most of the month and be proud of how far you have come being away from home. It's the little things that make your heart whole, treasure them. Enjoy the break and the holidays and happy end of finals! May all your grades be A's.
