Here's To Senior Year
Brian Meller

As the first week of senior year draws to a close, it marks the beginning of the end, and a start to a series of “lasts.” My last, first day of school has already come and gone and the nostalgia is already too real. But, while senior year represents the end in some aspects, it also gives way to some amazing new experiences and memories that only senior year can achieve. Get ready, because here goes the class of 2017!

1. Traditions Galore

Probably the most highly anticipated part of senior year is the traditions that seniors get to partake in. From painting our parking spots to changing our Facebook names and cover photos, the list goes on and on. We have spent three years of high school watching and waiting for it to be our turn to experience all of these amazing things and it is finally our time to partake in all the fun!

2. The Perks

Being the "big man on campus" comes with some pretty great plus-sides. Senior privileges are similar to traditions in the fact that we have waited for our turn and now it is our time to experience it all ourselves. We get to go off campus for lunch, cut underclassmen in lines, and are exempt from taking exams second semester! The perks are sweet, if I do say so myself.

3. College Here We Come

Senior year means applying to college, giving way to a hoard of college applications, visits, and interviews. While the process itself can be stressful at times, it should honestly be one of the most exciting times in our lives. We are deciding our futures, choosing where we will spend our next four years studying, which will help shape our futures as a whole. It takes a lot of hard work and it may be pressure packed at times, but I know it will all pay off second semester

4. Senior Events

As a senior, you basically get to partake in every event on campus. Prom, Senior Sunrise, Homecoming, and Senior Sendoff are just a few of the many events that I’m looking forward to participating in during my final year in high school. While some of these are solely senior events, others are school-wide and will be your “last” time partaking in them, so take it all in while you can!

5. Everlasting Memories

Senior year is all about making unforgettable memories. Like I said before, it is a year of “lasts” and I know I want to make the most of my final year in high school. This time next year my best friends and I will be separated, attending schools all over the country and I we will never be together again like we will be this year. Take full advantage of these final moments and create memories that will last forever!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
