The laughter, good food, decorations and festivities are all a big part of why Christmas time is my favorite time of the year. Going to holiday parties and driving around looking at Christmas lights are some of my favorite holiday memories. These things are great but, the most important part of the holidays is getting to have time to reflect on and celebrate the coming of our lord and savior Jesus Christ.
I’m not saying to you can’t enjoy the fun little festivities of Christmas. Bake Christmas cookies, go Christmas shopping, put up the tree, go to the candlelight service on Christmas eve, experience the joy of running up to the tree on Christmas morning, give your family members hugs and tell them you love them. You may not remember all of the little things that you do every holiday but, you will remember how those things made you feel, so make it worth it. I think it’s very important to make new memories with your friends and families that will last a lifetime. However, it is easy to get lost in the stress of having all of your family in the same place at the same time or scrambling to get a hold of a Christmas gift at the last minute. (I am definitely guilty of that!) Enjoy the time with your family and make sure that you get that perfect Christmas gift. Doing these things shows people that you love them and that is very important. Don’t forget to take the time to reflect on the reason why we get to celebrate all of these things in the first place.
God sent down his only son and made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could have the opportunity to live an eternal life with him. This brings me great joy and it is something that we should be praising God for every single chance that we get. The time that we are given to come together with family to celebrate the work of our creator is an amazing gift that we have and it’s something that should be cherished and celebrated in abundance. The story of our savior’s birth is one of amazing sacrifice and love. The God that created every single one of us sent down his only son so that a we could have a relationship with him again. It blows my mind to think that the God of the universe wants to spend all of eternity with me. He wants that so badly, that he would sacrifice his only son to die for my sins ad rise from the grave to conquer death and make an eternity with God possible for me. That is so incredibly powerful and it’s something that is worth celebrating and sharing.
As you celebrate this Christmas season, I pray that you will take time to reflect on the many blessings that God has given you. I pray that you will thank Him and that He will give you great understanding of him and the story of his son. Merry Christmas.
