Helpful hints for my fellow artists.

Overcoming The Artistic Blockage
Love-Of-The-Leaf

From my sketches to my written work I've always had a problem accepting my piece as a final draft simply because it never feels "good enough." Ladies and gentlemen, we are artists. It's never going to feel "good enough." I've acquired some bits of advice through my years of making art, and I'd like to share them with you in high hopes that they help you out.

In order to get past the "awkward" stage as I like to call it, you should practice drawing what you have the most trouble with. One of the things that I struggle with drawing the most are hands. They're such detailed parts of the human anatomy, and have always been an obstacle. If it's hands, pick a page in your notebook and fill it up with hands. Another source you can check out is Pinterest. It has multiple examples to help you out with sketch ideas and techniques. When I get stuck I often consult Pinterest for inspiration.

The next tip is for my writing crowd: Is your piece sounding dull? Make yourself a list of words to use more often! When you hear a word or phrase that you like, write it down; on your skin, a napkin, anything, and then add it to your list! This little tip really helps me out when I get caught in a funk and can't think of how to continue a piece. Some of my favorite words are serendipity, humble, scrumptious, lovely, fetching, realm, and reinnassance.

The most important thing, no matter what kind of art you make is to always stay inspired and keep an open mind. Never stop observing the world around you, pay attention to lightning and detail and don't be afraid to set down the phone or tablet for awhile and take a walk. This tip has been given to me over and over again and it's the most important thing any artist needs to learn. There is beauty and art in all things, the destruction of art itself is art. In the sad times, in the bad times, find it in yourself to pick up your brush, your pen, your pencil, your instrument and do whatever that beautiful thing is that you do. Art is all about self expression so please don't forget to express yourself.

I hope my tips help you out, I'm looking forward to seeing all of the beautiful things that you create with the knowledge you've been given. So create on all of you beautiful, wild flowers! Life is short, so make all that you can.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
