In computer programming, a person’s first program is usually called Hello World, so this is my version of that.
Hello World! My name is Carmen Seda. I am a freshman at Marquette University, majoring in Computer Engineering with a minor in Digital Media. I have a job on campus, I’m in a sorority for women in STEM careers, and I have a radio show called The Waiting Room with MU Radio.
I am also a part of Marquette's Live Poets Society, although I don't attend as many meetings as I should. My life revolves around computers and whatever music I'm listening to for the week.
Basically, I’m not really a writer.
Do I write depressing poetry when I go through a breakup? Yes. Do I come up with stories in my head and imagine what they would look like on paper? Also yes. Do I consider myself a writer? Not particularly. If anything, I think of myself as a storyteller, but I do hope to improve my skills through my future work in the Odyssey.
I'm actually pretty excited to start writing for the Odyssey. I do enjoy sharing my writing, or what little of it there actually is (curse my busy schedule and my laziness!). Even though my life is mainly focused in STEM, I've always had a more artistic side.
I enjoy writing, reading, and even crafting when I have the time. Having an outlet that forces me to write more frequently will be good - I think. My writing is always a reflection of my life, whether it be some stress I have or just something I thought of while watching television. But hey, who knows- maybe some of you will be able to relate to my scatterbrained ramblings.
Because I’m confident not many people will read this first article, I’m REALLY going to put myself out there. My freshman year of high school, I wrote half of a fanfiction about Destiel from the TV show Supernatural. In case you are unaware of Destiel, it’s the ship name for the characters Dean and Castiel on the show. I titled it “Clipped Wings & Hidden Demons.”
It is unfinished, and very cliché, but if you want to get a sense of my writing style, that’s a decent enough example, if not a little primitive compared to now. I’ll link it at the bottom.
So, yeah, that’s me. I’m not quite sure yet what kind of content I plan on posting- probably a hodgepodge of poetry and blog posts. I’m excited to improve my writing by forcing myself to actually write instead of just coming up with stuff inside my head. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy my work as much as I enjoy creating it.
