Earlier this week, I lost a very dear friend in a car accident on Sunday, October 25th. So today, I will dedicate this article to her and remember all the good times we had together.
But first I have to tell you about Emma. I have never met anyone who was more joyful about life than her. She could literally brighten anyone's day. Wanna know what her secret was? Her laugh! That laugh was so contagious. If Em was laughing, so were you.
I'll never forget the first time I hung out with Emily. It was our first day as freshman in high school and she invited a bunch of us over to her house for a pool party. We swam forever and even had a cake fight. I knew from that day on that we were going to be great friends.
Now, if there was anyone that got me out of my comfort zone, it was Em. She had such an adventurous spirit and was ready to do anything. Em made me feel like I could do anything, too. And it didn't take long for Em, Erykah, and I to become inseparable. We loved having fun and getting ourselves into trouble. That's what teenage girls do right? We sure did it well!
One memory that I keep playing over in my head is when Emily picked me up from the high school one day in her dad's car. Em needed to get gas, so we went to Mapco, and as soon as we pulled up, she hit the yellow cylinders that stand in front of the pumps. Of course, our first reaction was to freak out. We jumped out of the car and went to see what the damage was. But when we got back in the car, we laughed and laughed and laughed. We knew she would be in trouble, but we couldn't stop laughing.
It is amazing to see how many lives Emma touched with hers. She was so kind and such an amazing friend to everyone. Don't let me forget to tell you about her voice! That girl could sing. Her voice was beautiful and it would give you chills.
I don't know why this happened to her, and I never will. I'll never understand why she was called home so soon, but I do know that I, and everyone else, will see her again. Just like Emma's mom said, her soul is still here. Emma is still here with us everyday, and we are all behind her on our long journey home. It's hard, and it is going to be hard for a long time. But the one thing I know is true, is that Heaven is a little brighter now. Heaven gained a beautiful and restless soul to make for one perfect angel. I will forever thank God for putting Emily in my life and for blessing me with such an amazing friend. We love you, Emma, and we always will. This isn't goodbye, it's a see you soon.
