Heather Brave, a New York singer-songwriter, is exactly what the music industry needs right now. Inspired by her experiences and destined to tell a story through her lyrics, Brave is relatable, interesting and completely original. After given the chance to interview her, it became evident to me that she wants nothing more than to make music and share her work with her loyal fans. Brave's genuine and humble personality combined with her incredible musical talent is the perfect recipe for success in a competitive industry.

Q: "Can you tell me a little bit about how your career started?

A: "Yes, of course! I know it sounds crazy, but I was first on a stage at the age of about three or four. I sang "Doe a Deer" and my parents were way more nervous than I was. I actually got on the stage and was really chill. I thought I was Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz."

Q: "In terms of other musical work, when did you truly start performing?"

A: "I did musical theater in New York. When I was in middle school, I wanted to write my own songs. I still love doing covers, but I was always enchanted by the idea of telling my own stories. When I was 11, I knew I wanted to do music. It felt natural to me. Music overwhelms every day in a very natural fluid way."

Q: "What other artists inspire you and why?"

A: "I would definitely say Regina Spektor and Ingrid Michaelson. Their sound is different than pop. I like the way those artists tell their stories and how unique they are."

Q: "What has been one of the biggest hardships you have had to overcome so far?"

A: "I would definitely say starting so young in the industry. A lot of people just saw me as an opportunity and because of that, my voice was compromised. I have learned to be open to people's wisdom, but I still make my own choices."

Q: "What are you currently working on in terms of music?"

A: "I'm rehearsing with my band a lot and working on having my EP out by the end of this (coming) summer. It's really about claiming control and being the boss of my own life. There are more personal tracks about my relationship with myself on there too."

Q: "What are some fun facts about you?"

A: "I live in New York and it's the best place ever. I'm a vegan and I'm obsessed with avocado rolls."

Q: "If you could only listen to three artists for the rest of your life, who would they be and why?"

A: "Probably Regina Spektor because I grew up listening to all of her albums and saw her perform live. Then, I'd have to say Paramore because they have evolved unbelievably. This is a hard question. For the last artist, I would say Michael Buble because I think it's humanly impossible to get sick of his voice. Also, (because) I would need something to listen to during Christmas time."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
