Veins of blood
caress the heart,
softly touching
the chambers
beating like drums,
pumping life
in each pulse.
Suddenly
the veins twist
into red-blue rope,
choking the heart
in an ugly mess,
leaving red stains
splattered along
battered ribs.
Heartbeat gone.
