5 Things You Miss About Home When You Head Back To School After Break

For many of us in college or even high school, it's getting to that point after the New Year when we have to start thinking about going back to school. None of us want to face the responsibilities of homework, projects, papers, books to read, etc., but at least we don't all have to leave home when school resumes. If you do, you know the many pleasures of getting to be home on a break from school. Here are some of the things you will definitely, maybe, probably, most likely miss when you return to school.

Home-Cooked Meals

If you live in a dorm, you know the pain of the mundane campus eating. If you don't, then you still know that no matter the recipe or how hard you try, you'll never be able to cook like your mom does. We'll all miss having hot, healthy meals prepared for us when we go back to school.

YOUR PETS

When i come home, my dog and I resume being best friends like i never left. It's like having a constant companion who praises you for every small thing you do, which you have to leave when school starts back. If I could take one piece of home back to school with me, it would be my sweet dog, Bailey. Sorry, mom and dad...

Your High School Friends

In college you might meet your lifetime best friends and your maid of honor, but there's something special about those hometown friends. These people know your family better than you do sometimes and you guys got into the most fun mischief back in high school. There is nothing like picking up right where you left off.

The Best Local Eats

I can't be the only one who made a list of every place they had to eat at before break ended, right? You have your favorite spots in your college town, but nothing beats the places you grew up enjoying.

The People Who Make Home, Home

All of the things I've mentioned make me excited to come back home when I'm anticipating a break from school. However, what makes me the most sad to return is having to leave my best friends- my family. I'm thankful that home will always be wherever they are, not just a town I grew up in.

Whether you're home for a weekend or a month, there are always those things that you'll find yourself longing for once you return back to school.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
