Why I Hate Third-Party Voters, Specifically Susan Sarandon

In case you missed out, Susan Sarandon was a passionate supporter of Bernie Sanders.

There are a lot of people who could be blamed for getting our current president, who has no experience in politics and is certifiably crazy, elected.

For starters, you could blame the man himself.

You could blame the many people who voted for him.

You could blame the people who were too lazy to get out and vote, even though someone like me took a train down to Connecticut just to vote because my absentee ballot didn’t come in.

You could blame Hillary Clinton for not being an appealing enough candidate.

But if you are anything like me, you are most angry with the people who decided to write in their votes for “Bernie” or “Harrambe,” and the people who voted for a third-party candidate.

And yes, they are the same thing.

They’re people who essentially wasted their vote because they can’t get over their personal feelings towards Hillary. Or they wanted to send a message to the country by screwing it over.

Sorry, I’m pissed.

And I thought I got over it, until I saw an interview with perhaps the most third-party loving person in Hollywood, Susan Sarandon. (Remember she supported Nader, remember that.)

In case you missed out, Susan Sarandon was a passionate supporter of Bernie Sanders. And that’s fine. However, before the candidates were decided, Sarandon said in an interview that she trusted Trump more than she trusted Clinton. This, naturally, set many people off, particularly Grace Adler herself, Debra Messing.

Messing has been a longtime supporter of Clinton, and a longtime critic of Trump. Naturally, Messing took issues with Sarandon’s comments, and fired back on Twitter. Meanwhile, I took lots of screenshots of these tweets, because that’s what I do when I see a tweet that I really agree with.

So after Trump got elected, Susan Sarandon sent out some tweet saying, “we need to all support each other, and not judge each other, and keep hope alive, blah blah, blah,” and it did not go over well with me and several other depressed Clinton voters.

And no it didn’t stop there.

In June, when asked about Debra Messing, Susan Sarandon actually compared her to Trump and called her “misinformed.” And just recently, she said in an interview with The Guardian that, “we’d be at war with Clinton.” And Debra just quoted the interview in a tweet, with the caption “Oh for the love of God.” And I screenshotted it and put it on Instagram.

But why am I the angriest at Susan Sarandon? Why not any other third-party voter, or people who wrote in votes, or people who didn’t even vote?

First of all, I don’t know these people and don’t search for any of them on social media. (I follow Debra Messing on Twitter, so that’s how I saw this interview, by the way.)

Second of all, and perhaps the main reason why I’m so pissed, Susan Sarandon is pretty much unaffected by Trump. She’s white and rich, and those are Trump’s people. And even though she’s a woman, she probably doesn’t need to get birth control or an abortion anytime soon.

A lot of people got mad at celebrities who got involved in the election, mainly because they didn’t support their desired candidate, but also because their lives might not change by a result. They’re probably not struggling to pay taxes or likely to get deported. When Trump was elected, several people were terrified.

The last thing we needed was someone who downplayed the threat of Trump and voted for someone who likely was never going to get elected, saying that we need to stay strong.

And one year later, when the shit has hit the fan, we don’t need someone saying, “oh it would have been the same way if the other more qualified candidate was elected.”

If Susan Sarandon and any others who share her mindset owned their part in Trump’s election, or if they gave props to Clinton, I, and others, wouldn’t be as angry.

Because it wouldn’t be like this. It might not be a magical liberal land with free college, higher minimum wage, and solar panels on every house, but it would be fine.

However, fine is not good enough for some people, and they have to get their way every time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
