On Friday, May 6, singer-songwriter Harry Styles posted a photo to Instagram of his ponytail. Only problem was, his ponytail was no longer on his head. Instead, it was in his hand, detached from his head.
So what? People get haircuts all the time. It's a normal thing. But this particular situation, with this particular hair cut, is much more significant. Because Harry donated his hair to the Little Princess Trust.
The Little Princess Trust is a lot like Locks of Love, just located in the UK and Ireland. "The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their own hair through cancer treatment," and the more hair donations the trust receives, the more opportunities young boys and girls have of receiving wigs.
It is fantastic for anyone to donate their hair to an organization like this, but when a major celebrity like Harry grows out his hair with the sole purpose of donating to those in need, it draws a lot of attention and raises awareness. A picture says a thousand words, and Harry's picture sends a very clear message: Cutting your long hair, and donating to a very deserving organization, is a great thing to do. It's thumbs up worthy. It's something that Harry did, and something you should do, too.
If you were unaware of this charity, or weren't sure what you could do to help cancer patients with hair loss, Harry has just informed you on which direction to look. You now know that you can make a difference. You can put a smile on a fighter's face. You can bring confidence to a young boy/girl who is looking for it. You can give them a sense of normalcy in their current situation.
Now all we need are two things:
1) More donations to the Little Princess Trust (UK/Ireland) and Locks of Love (US).
2) Harry to post a picture of what his new hairdo looks like.
