It's October now and seeing how it is the first October I am spending in a university, I figured this was the perfect time to mix the two. It's a witch-y, spooky time here at college and though I have only been here for a few months, I have experienced lots. From essay writing to food, here is what I've learned about college so far using Harry Potter to help me explain.

1. My 8 a.m. class

Both my exact response when I found out I had an 8 a.m. class that I couldn't get out of and when my alarm goes off at 6:30 in the morning every Tuesday and Thursday.

2. Finding freedom

At first newly found freedom was scary, but then the fact that I didn't need to ask before going to go get food or didn't have to wait for a bell to sound to head to class got pretty cool. Now I'm as happy as Harry on Buckbeak.

3. Different grades

High School is indeed very different from college, especially when it comes to grades. I went from having a strong GPA and treating it like my baby, to hoping for a B. College proved to be a rude awakening that one's GPA pretty much can't be perfect.

4. Sleeping?

What's that? I have no idea. Honestly, even laying down gives me guilt as I should be doing homework. Not going to hide that naps are a part of my to-do lists, but sleeping... not really.

5. Online assignments

Online classes are one thing, but online assignments is its own entity. I'm talking about those programs for math or English that make you want to cry. 5/7, 7/5 is wrong, but (5/7, 7/5) is right? That's just mean.

6. The cafeteria at 5 p.m.

I learned one thing about the cafeteria at 5 P.M, don't do it. I can't hear my friend next to me asking if I want pizza and she can't hear me say I want water, but I can hear about everyone else's conversations. It's no fun.

7. Roommates

Luckily, I happened to get some great roommates and now have my own partners in crime. We pretty much look like this on the daily.

8. Boys

Most act like they are five years old, but it can be entertaining so I forgive them. Until they get a skateboard and try to run me over, then they're idiots.

9. Adulthood

Yeah, so I was told when I turned 18 I would be an adult, but no one told me that I wouldn't be treated like one. I'm still being babied by older adults.

10. Classes getting canceled

Whether it's because of all these hurricanes or because you're teacher decided not to show up, classes getting cancelled is probably one of the best feelings.

11. Essay and test days

The walk before having to write or turn in the essay you've been working on for a week is always a daunting one.

12. Finding confidence

After being in college for almost three months I can safely say, I do not look like this every day, but I do when I face a challenge. I know through hard work and a venti coffee, I can accomplish just about anything college may throw at me.

College has been fun so far, but not as fun as describing it with Harry Potter gifs. I hope this helped you get a little bit more into the Halloween-y mood and learn about what I've been going through and learning so far in college. Even though days don't come incredibly easily, I know my mischief is managed.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
