Like so many others who couldn't afford to fly to London this summer and see "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Parts 1 & 2," I read the script when it came out this week in a mere three and a half hours. Being a massive Harry Potter fan (I was even in a club in high school), I obviously freaked out the entire time and had to analyze everything. So what better way to express these feelings with every one else that has read it?
1. Dumbledore and Snape were great and all, but why did Harry name his son after him?
What really kills me is that he wasn't named after Lupin. I get that Sirius was his godfather and all, but Harry knew Remus for a long time and he was good friends with his father, too. And did Ginny have any say in what they named their children?
2. Rose is like a bratty version of Hermione.
It's scary how much Rose is like Hermione. She's headstrong and intelligent. But how did she become so prejudiced? Seriously, why is she such a brat? Who cares what the rumors are? Scorpius is being nice to you, it shouldn't matter who his father is! And she just completely stops being friends with Albus, her COUSIN, because he gets sorted into Slytherin? Come on.
3. Albus is sorted into Slytherin and I love it.
I know that it caused a lot of hard times for Albus because he was kind of seen as the outcast in his family, but the people who really mattered didn't care. And he realizes his issues with Harry do not stem from the fact that he is in Slytherin.
4. Albus, you little troublemaker.
How on EARTH did he think that it would be OK to travel back in time and SAVE CEDRIC?! I understand that it was terrible that he died but do you really want to RE-WRITE HISTORY?! I guess the rest of the story tells you that no, he actually does not once he realizes all the chaos he caused.
5. Why did they team up with Delphi? Like, how random is that?
Yeah, that totally safe, going back in time with some older girl who you don't even really know? And isn't the fact that she conveniently had Polyjuice Potion, which takes months to brew, a huge red flag? No wonder she's the daughter of Voldemort.
6. YAS, DRACO!
Honestly, I kind of love how Draco is in the story more than Ron. For one, it's his son that is a part of this whole debacle, and two, he finally has a chance to redeem himself. And not to mention that I feel so bad that his wife died.
7. Is it just me...
Or did it sometimes seem like Albus and Scorpius liked each other in a non-friend sort of way? I get that Scorpius likes Rose, but I think that Scorpius and Albus were a little too affectionate to just be friends. And I'm totally all for that.
8. What is an Augurey?
And WHAT IS VOLDEMORT DAY? Muggle-borns in the dungeons being tortured? A Blood Ball? For Voldemort and Valor?! I AM NOT WELL.
9. Hermione's alternate-universe personalities are still awesome.
I just about screamed when I realized that Hermione became Minister of Magic, because how amazing, but I thought the two others versions of her were entirely plausible as well. Although I'm glad that they didn't happen, she would be a pretty cool Defense Against the Dark Arts professor and a badass rebel hiding from the law.
10. Seeing Cedric save Albus and Scorpius is so sad.
When you consider that he was about to die (even though he doesn't know it), it is so sad when he shows up and helps them when they know they can't save him.
11. I knew there was something going on between Bellatrix and Voldemort.
She worshipped him a little more than the others. And if Delphi was born before the Battle of Hogwarts, when was Bellatrix actually pregnant? And how did she recover quick enough to fight?
12. This is so sick.
We actually have to see Harry suffer AGAIN as he watches Voldemort kill his parents. I'm so mad. But also this kind of had to happen. But he actually has to suffer and watch it this time. And that's just wrong.
13. It's a wild ride.
BUT THIS IS HONESTLY SO GOOD. I know I just kind of ran off about a bunch of seemingly negative aspects of the script but they are honestly just things I'm questioning even though I know everything had to happen the way it did in order for the story to work. Now I get to go back to my old life of crying that the series is actually complete. Now onto "Fantastic Beasts!"
