To a mom who is so much more than just a mom,
I know I tell you day in and day out how much I love you, but I don’t think I’ve ever truly expressed how much you mean to me. I don’t know where I’d be without you. I wouldn’t be a quarter of the woman I am today had I not had you by my side. I just wanted to take a few minutes out of my hectic life to thank you and to wish you a happy birthday properly.
Anytime you’ve given me anything and done anything for me I know I’ve always said thank you, but you deserve so much more than just those two little words. You’ve been there for every school play, every scrapped knee, every graduation and every broken heart. When I needed a shoulder to cry on or a hug to make it through the day you’ve been there. You’ve been both parents to me for years now and you don’t understand how much I respect you for that.
You could have given up on me anytime I did something stupid or you could have been just a mom, but you chose to be so much more. I gave you constant attitude and battled with you so much throughout high school and I regret it. You didn’t deserve the mean things I said or my disobedience, but thank you for dealing with it. Thank you for getting me back on the right track when I lost my ways. Thank you for believing in me and being the only person who was proud of me no matter what I did.
I realize now that I lucked out having you as my mom. I realize how many school plays you sat through, how many years you were a girl scout leader, how many times you bandaged up a scraped knee, and how many times you listened to me rant about people I shouldn’t have been wasting my breathe on. Most moms wouldn’t have dealt with all that “little” stuff, but what you don’t realize is that wasn’t the little stuff. All those things meant so much to me now that I look back at it. They weren’t little things because you were the only one to be there for each and everyone of those things.
Mom, you stood by my side alone. You worked jobs you hated, waitressing or overnights, to make sure I always had everything I needed or wanted growing up and even now. When I fell down whether it be physically, mentally, or emotionally you were the parent by my side. You were a doctor when I was sick, a best friend when the boy I cared so much for moved away, a number one fan when I starred in Greene-Hills Idol, a supporter when I didn’t know if I was making the right decisions, and superwoman always.
This letter isn’t just a thank you though, it’s a happy birthday! Today’s your day mom, enjoy it. Know that if I don’t call until late that I didn’t forget. I love you and I know I don’t call enough just to say hi, but you are always in my thoughts. Every choice or decision I make I think about what you would say if you were here with me. All I hope is to make you proud and I hope that your birthday is as special as you are.
Thank you mom, for being more than just my mom. Thank you for being my best friend too. Here’s to you, to your birthday, and to many many more birthdays.
Love Always,
Gabby
