My Handicap Parking Spot Is Not There For Your Convenience

I don't know what it is lately but I have become more aware of the things that people do or say to differently able people. It may be because I am going through all of it as we speak or simply because it's been a topic of conversation in my household or at training. Either way, these are important for everyone to know and learn about.

More recently, I have begun to notice that a lot of the handicap spots are taken, by parents who want to wait for there kid or students just wanting a spot closer. And there is a very limited amount of spots. These spots by law can only be used if you have a handicap license or tag. I have a disability, I need a spot where I am able to walk right into school or when I have my wheelchair be able to get out safely. It makes me livid when I see parents parking there just to drop off/wait for their kid without a tag. Those spots are not intended for you. As many times as I see parents or grandparents utilize those spots, some of them do have tags. And they have every right to park there. but they would rather wait in the car for their kids to come so they can get out quicker or faster.

If you are driving and you need the handicap spot, great. If you are a person with someone in the car that needs the spot, awesome. But don't use the tag or park in the spot if the person that needs it is not in the car that needs it or you just want to use your tag to pick up your kid just so you don't have to wait in the line. I am fortunate where if I have an issue with the handicap spots or anything I can go to the office and notify them. But what about public places? There most likely isn't someone there to check those things. My mom and my boyfriend, Jacob sometimes have to tell people to move out of the handicap spots because I am unable to get where I need to go. They eventually move. I shouldn't have to tell someone my story to get them to move. But it happens and it happens more than people think it does.

Cars park in the loading area (the blue slashes next to some of the spots) which is something that I need to get my wheelchair out.

Cars/buses blocking the ramps or spots.

Cars that park in the van spot, when it clearly states van only.

It's not okay. We want to get places too.

People get annoyed when we ask them to move. Well, I get just as annoyed when people are in spots that aren't intended for them.

Yes, it is easier to park there. But newsflash, It is not intended to make able bodies lives easier, it is convenient for those people who have and need the accommodations. The point of those spots is to provide access for those with physical or medical conditions. I and several others cannot walk long distances across parking lots or utilize the curb. Point is, please be a good human and remember those spots are for differently able people, people with tags or license plates. Just be aware of what you are doing, it may affect others greatly.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
