I've had a pet hamster for most of my time in college, at this point and I've definitely learned the positives and negatives of having hamsters. They're little heart-breakers, but they're so worth the time and effort. I'm so glad I've had such a lovely pet throughout my college years.

1. Hamsters are adorable

Hamsters are seriously the cutest. How can you resist that adorable, little face?

2. But they only live two to five years

Honestly, it's a MIRACLE if your hamster lives five years. I've had two hamsters and my first one, Whiskey Dick, didn't even make it to her second birthday. My current hamster, Atlas Nugget, doesn't seem to be doing too well either and he's a year and a half old.

3. Hamsters have big personalities

Both of my hamsters have had such personalities. Whiskey Dick was a sassy little b*tch and she escaped her cage FIVE times within a few months. Whiskey just couldn't be tied down to the modern confines of hamster life.

4. They're low maintenance

You have to clean their cage regularly and ensure they have food and water on a daily basis. You also have to give them some love, but that's not difficult because you adore these little guys.

5. Hamsters are escape artists

Like I mentioned earlier, Whiskey escaped FIVE times. Hamsters are f*cking wild and they will do whatever it takes to get out of their homes. Hamsters ain't trying to commit to ANYONE.

6. They do some really crazy sh*t sometimes and you just get to watch

Honestly, just search 'hamster tricks' on YouTube and you will not be disappointed in the slightest.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
