Halloween of 2016 is finally here! It's been quite a bumpy ride to get to this point, but we've, more or less, made it without completely failing miserably in every aspect of life. Hooray! What is more perfect to reflect on all of the mishaps and headlines of the past year than dressing up as them? Below is a list of several Halloween costumes to commemorate various situations/circumstances/events that have happened in 2016. Feel free to make the costumes as sexy or bland as you like!
1. Harambe
Rest in Peace, Harambe. With all the memes that came about after the death of the endangered gorilla, I expect we'll see quite a few Harambe/Sexy Harambe costumes out on the street. Whether or not the costume is in poor taste can be decided by the public, but hey, then again, it might just be some random gorilla.
2. Bees
THE BEES ARE DYING! This is a really scary thing for our planet and everything in it. Several species of bees have actually been put on the endangered species list this year, something that has never before happened in the United States. Spread awareness and fight for their cause, because if the bees die, that's really bad news for us.
3. Anything Pokémon
Whether you want to collaborate and go as Ash and Misty, or you simply want to dress up as Pikachu, the Pokémon universe offers endless costume opportunities for you! The summer of 2016 was taken over by a sudden and brief craze when Niantic's newest game Pokémon Go was released. The hype has since died out, but you can commemorate it with your costume this Halloween!
4. The Presidential Candidates
Are you frustrated by the current state of the union? Are you disappointed with this country's politics, and the choice for the nominees? Why not exercise your rights as a free citizen and dress up as an exaggerated version of Trump or Hillary, calling attention to their flaws and mistakes by turning them into a sad satirical costumes before the upcoming election (November 8th).
5. Bernie Sanders
Pay your respects and honor the death of Senator Bernie Sanders' campaign. May we always remember that he had the best intentions and wanted to help the country, not for himself, but for all of us. I hope I see at least one person sporting a crazy white wig, large square glasses, and an ill-fitted suit.
6. Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar
Either as a couple's costume or as a solo thing, Leo and his Oscar are definitely something that deserves to be commemorated in costume. His Oscar win was a longtime coming, and it was definitely one of the biggest highlights of the year. That, and his acceptance speech is definitely something to be remembered.
