Halloween and Comic-Con come around the same time every year (duh), and it only seems to get harder when deciding what to be. I constantly struggle with debating on whether to be the generic witch or cat, but that's simply because I never know what character to be without feeling out of place. It's no secret that there isn't a lot of representation for WOC in television shows and movies, especially when the majority have been or are being whitewashed. Creators usually add one character of color to avoid being called out, and most of the time, it's a background character used for laughs and playing into stereotypes. When scrolling through one of my favorite Instagrammer's IG, I found just the inspiration I was looking for.

I can proudly say that I've found plenty more characters to add to the list when thinking of WOC characters. You can add in Susie from the Rugrats, Princess Jasmine from Aladdin, Katara from Avatar's Last Airbender, Miss Grotke from Recess, Tiana from The Princess and the Frog, Phoebe from Hey Arnold! Mulan, Libby from Jimmy Neutron, Moana, Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Tessa & Vanessa James from Pepper Ann, Miranda from As Told As Ginger, Valerie from Josie and the Pussycats and Storm from X-Men just to name a few. Whether you choose to recognize the background of a character or not, there are plenty of people to choose from outside of the list.
