The relationship always starts off casual and innocent. You don't bring us flowers but you make us a playlist of your favorite bands. You never drive us home or walk us up to our front doors, but you always kiss us when we walk out of yours.
We don't usually expect much from someone who doesn't seem like they have a lot to offer us. We don't care about the flowers or the mini-golf dates or expensive Christmas presents. We care about you. We want you, we want your time and we want any little bit of it that we can get our desperate hands on.
None of us meant for it to end up like this, we never meant to get attached. We all went into this "relationship" with the intentions of -- well, I think we all know what those were. We tried brainwashing ourselves into thinking that a physical relationship was possible without an emotional one. But the truth is, it almost never is.
We didn't ask for that. As women, we want to be just as detached and unemotional as men. We didn't ask for you to walk into our lives and make us feel like the crazy girl you laugh about with your friends. But you made us feel that way.
You made us feel stupid for caring about you and pathetic when you would cancel the plans we waited all week (anxiously) for. You made us feel insecure and ridiculous for thinking that maybe things could actually work out. You made us excited to hear the kind words roll off your tongue on the nights you were drunk even though we're embarrassed to admit you would never say them sober. You made us feel like we were this huge burden, or weight on your shoulders when all we wanted was your time. You made us feel like we always asked for too much though we never asked for anything. You made us hopeful that you were capable of change. You made us feel hopeless when you proved us wrong for the third consecutive time. You each let us fall for you and none of you had the intentions of catching us.
You made us feel like we were crazy for believing that maybe love did exist. That those stories you hear of people meeting under different circumstances and eventually falling in love, maybe they were true. You made us feel crazy for believing you were too good for us when in all honesty we were the only good thing about you.
But we will thank you because you made us realize that we weren't the crazy ones after all. You were for letting us walk away.
