Amongst the significant issues that have risen around the world, it seems for the average New Yorker that issue of Gun Violence hits closest to home. The question of the accessibility to guns has risen a lot in 2018 alone. It seems the access to weapons is much more comfortable for countless people around the United States and the accessibility costs the lives of many. As of March 21st, 2018, there have been 49 mass shooting that has occurred nationwide since the beginning 2018.

This number is rising with each day and has reached the doors of a place where kids should feel the safest, school. The idea of a gun brought into schools, disrupts the education and forces parents to fear for the lives of their children when they are not in their care. When we look at a recent incident in a Florida school, we see that a mass shooting in which 17 were killed and 17 were injured. This shooting sparked outrage as it the lives of kids and teachers were put at risk. This issue has sparked national outrage as the problem of a mass shooting is now putting children at risk.

As a child who has had access to education in New York City, recently reading a news article stating a gun brought into the high school they attended brought surprise and great shock. It was surprising that anyone would carry a weapon into the school they once called home. Though this article established that the gun was not brought into the school, but was claimed to be as a child decided to pull a prank, it could have caused significant chaos for hundreds of students, faculty and their families who are unaware of their safety. If this indeed was something that occurred then the lives of many would have been lost.

Thus, the recent March For our Rights campaign started by those who survived the Florida High School Shooting is necessary and a crucial moment that needs to be understood. This campaign which was launched by kids, should reach the ears of Congress and limit the accessibility to guns.

This issue of gun access through a right in our constitution needs restrictions. Though the law promises people the right to bear arms, our right to life is a much more necessary. In a recent debate between representatives of NPR and the survivors of the Florida shooting and their families established high tension between the two amendments. However, as a call to action, it seems that it is yet again time to make revisions to what we call our constitution.

Regardless of the pressure that is rising due to the issue of Gun Control, the voices of the kids fighting for their liberty to life needs to be respected and heard. If at the end of March, we have had a lot of bloodsheds occur within our borders, we need to ensure that it comes to an end. We must ask ourselves, why is an individual who is unable to vote able to gain access to a gun? Do we have to ask, why there aren’t complicated procedures put in place to ensure that those who buy guns are capable of even owning them? Why is it that when a person shows warning signs that signal that they intend to harm others, take action? Though the issue of Gun Control raises many questions, it is the ability to limit the accessibility of weapons that can kill.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
