13 Signs You Are From Hayden, Alabama

Think of the smallest town you can think of. Cut it in half, and there you have Hayden, AL. To some, it is a tiny hell hole that they are eager to leave, to others it is a forever home. Either way, you can't deny that these are the signs that you grew up in the tiny town of Hayden, AL.

1. Park and Ride

It's everyone's favorite meeting spot. It even somehow turned into a hang out for the local middle/high schoolers. Because everyone should hang out in a parking lot once in your life...

2. Hens and Hogs

Yes. This is a small (& I mean small) "restaurant" that used to be a car wash. Only in Hayden, AL did they turn a car wash into a place to buy food.

3. No red lights

No, I'm not kidding. No red lights.

4. You eat at Phil's Grill once/week

Because Phillip Niblett is actually the best cook there is.

4. Stopping at Logan's to get breakfast

Do you even live in Hayden if you haven't done this?

5. Dollar Generals and churches on every corner

That's just the way it is.

6. The roads

They're horrible. Everybody knows it and no one is fixing it

7. 30 minute drives to the nearest Wal-Mart

You can either go south toward Gardendale or north toward Cullman, but either way, it's going to take a hot minute to get there.

8. You and your parents were taught by the same teachers

Mr. Arnold definitely taught everyone in Hayden math. (Sweetest man ever)

9. "A Hayden Wildcat lives here" yard signs

They're everywhere. You can't go half a mile without seeing one of these

10. Everybody knows everybody

It sounds cliche for a small town, but it's oh so true.

11. That one building that was a bakery, a video store, beauty shop, and now a car dealership?

I don't even know.

12. Rivalries between Hayden and Corner...but also Mortimer Jordan

These Friday nights are the biggest happenings in all of Hayden.

13. Home of The Great Pumpkin Patch

Enough said.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
