The Grammy’s this year were amazing (except for Pitbull’s performance at the end…I could’ve done without that). The tribute to David Bowie was awesome, and the Lionel Richie tribute was breathtaking. Personally, I was pleased with the awards show this year. I still need a moment for Sam Hunt’s and Carrie Underwood’s performance…I am disappointed that Adele didn’t sing "Hello," but I’m over it.
There are some people who I think should have won. For example, I think Tori Kelly should’ve won best new artist. One reason being that I feel like Meghan Trainor is not all that new, but I thought her acceptance speech was cute, and her dad was in tears, so I’m not that upset over it. Basically, it’s cool her dad was there to witness that special milestone in his daughter’s life. No matter how much you hate the song “Uptown Funk,” you have to admit that it deserved Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The song is catchy, and I know you still sing and dance to it when you hear it. Well done Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. Little Big Town won Best Country Song for “Girl Crush” and Chris Stapleton’s "Traveler" was awarded Best Country Album. To be honest, I’m a little disappointed that Carrie Underwood was not nominated for her album that she released this past October. Also, I’m kind of sad that Sam Hunt didn’t get anything. I’m almost positive I only wanted him to win something for his looks (s’hot). Ed Sheeran definitely deserved Song of the Year and Best Solo Performance for “Thinking Out Loud.” It was on the charts for forever and is still very popular to play at weddings. Kendrick Lamar also had a great night, winning two Grammy’s. One for Best Rap Album and another for Best Rap Song.
My favorite part of the night was when Taylor Swift won Album of the Year and in her speech, she threw some major shade at Kanye. Swift said, “There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you're going you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world.” Lets be real though, he asked for it. I, for one, was ecstatic when she won and gave her speech for two reasons. One, I love Taylor and two, I really really really do not like Kanye.
In my opinion, all of the awards were well deserved. This was quite the year for the music industry. A year full of great new music and some very iconic moments. From Zayn leaving One Direction to Taylor Swift practically changing the music industry overnight to the death of David Bowie, his past year is one for the books.
